The stainless mini 14 ranch that I used to own only lasted a month or two in my collection then it was sold and I have never missed it at all. The only thing good I can say about it was that it was reliable IF you used quality Ruger mags.
I now own three AR lowers and five uppers and I'm always tempted to buy every one I see if I feel it's a good deal.
The only thing the Mini 14 has going for it is that it's non restricted but I would personally rather spend more money to buy a rifle that I would be happy with. The mini 14 I had would only shoot about 4 moa and that was on a good day and the one fluke group of the day, I would say it was more consistently shooting around 5-6 moa.

If you want a decent non restricted then watch the EE for a used Armalite AR180B-2 and if you can get it for less than $1500 buy it. I love mine and even though I have a non restricted ACR as well I still enjoy shooting my 180.

And after owning one I know why they never actually shot any bad guys in that show.
It's too bad they are so inaccurate, I like the action and they look pretty good but mine was actually minute of barn door. I wouldn't be surprised if that phrase was made up by someone who had just finished shooting one of these rifles.

And that is exactly what has kept me from owning one.
It would drive me crazy.

Mini 14 have poor accuracy, at least both of mines does, and if they are reclassified to restricteds, the only advantage they have will be gonne...

On the other hands the AR is so much fun to shoot, so good that i use my KAC SR15 Mod 2 for target shooting, the plattform is great...

Go for a good AR, you will have no regrets... JP.
