Other than looking a bit more "finished", I don't get it either. Certainly no performance gain there.
 
Been looking at the kimber Adirondack for a while, but now looking more towards a sako carbonlight due to the detachable magazine and set trigger availability
 
I'd wager a bet that out of their rifle line up, the Montana is the biggest seller. They'd be foolish to change anything and I think they've recognized that by only adding a removable brake and more caliber choices. Good move. The only thing this might do is have even more people choose it over the Mtn Ascent as now the only difference is fluting, skeletonizing, a few ounces and a fugly camo stock.

I don't know about that, kelvar /carbon fiber is pretty strong stuff. If they made it both ways, those that don't like floor-plates would be free to keep buying their blind magazines.

Yes you would think they would do it both ways and make a left hand version as well. It wouldn't hurt their sales thats for sure. I would like to see them chamber a limited run in 284 win.
 
I read comments by a purported Kimber engineer while researching an 84M .25-284 and the 84M/L apparently would be borderline in the .284, the receiver ring is too slim. Just the little extra diameter of the .284 supposedly puts it below hoop stress safety limits for the barrel shank and reciever ring. It's a .473 and under only setup, and perfectly optimised for that, that's why we get them so light. This said, I suspect they calculate likely a 100% safety factor, and no doubt it would hold, you'd just never see it from the factory. With aviation and contained explosions I don't push engineering limits either even if there's a generous over-engineered safety factor.

That makes sense Ardent. The 8400 wsm series would work, but it would be heavier. The kimber board of directors make decisions as to the best way to make money for its shareholders, therefore we are stuck with what we got.
 
For all the questions about the new version, why can't I find anything online yet at shot show? Do some companies roll items out over different days? I thought there would be info available today about the Kimbers and even Tikka rumoured replacement for the T3?
 
Kimber has the new Montana on the website.
22-250, 6.5 Creed, and 7mm-08 back in the lineup.
They have screwed it up by adding a threaded muzzle for all of the Montanas though.
I'm sure the 22-250 will have a very slow twist as well. The 6.5 is reported to be 1-8", but the website says 12"...that would suck.
 
Yes I was informed the same. After following your post on the Kimber 223, I decided to order one as well. After a couple of months I was told told by Korth that they had discontinued the 223, and I ended up with a Montana in a 204 ruger. I can't complain with the 204, but I think I'm going to have to order up one in a 22-250!

They have the .223 listed on their 2016 line up so I wonder what the deal is?
