Best primers ---opinions

Recently I've had lots of failures to fire with CCI 450 (small rifle magnum). Most failures fire on the second strike but some don't.
By lots I mean between 3 and 8 failures in 50 rounds
CCI denies it's their primers' fault.
In the end they told me my lot was manufactured in 2011 and it might have degraded if stored improperly.
I have 4000 left so I'll be cursing CCI big time.

Federal never let me down though.
CCI non-magnum seem ok too.

Likely an issue with the firearm IMO, CCI have hard primers.

Can't see it being primers either.

Might be just borderline of having enough striking force.

BR4's and CCI450's tend to need a pretty strong firing pin strike. (though I never had one not fire personally, but maybe a few inconsistent ignitions at times)
Some use the softer federal 205's for that reason.

I too have had issues with CCI primer failures over the last couple years. Not in one particular rifle either. I fave never had a Federal Match primer fail.

Just my experience for what it's worth...

I'm using Dominion Small Rifle primers in my 9mm and 40 S&W reloads. Can't tell a difference from using CCI small pistol primers.

Thought it would be a good idea to see what Warren Page, the greatest bench rest shooter of them all, had to say about primers, in his book, the accurate rifle.
I looked in the index and three different pages had "primer." Two of those pages it was just a one word entry. On the third page, 165, here is what he says about primers.
So the obvious answer to the OP's original question, is NO.

I experienced this situation many years ago. I bought a 1000 Remington 6 1/2 primers at the Rochester gun show. Loaded them in .223 Rem & the first time out to the range it blew a primer *%#@%.

I ended up giving them to a buddy who shoots .22 Hornet. Lesson learned the hard way.

I can't believe 1000 primers are fetching $60 plus tax locally. Robbery. Remember when they were under $20/1000? The best ones for me are the ones I can actually find. Been grabbing WSR when I have come across them, but CCI 450's are my preferred spark for 5.56 loads. I have loaded CCI 250's by the truckload in large capacity cases for years, but the hotter spark of the WLRM is my choice when it comes to my .338 RUM. Are they the "best"? Who cares.

At one time or another I was of the opinion that all the major manufacturers were best, I started with Winchester, the went to Federal, then Remington, then CCI. As a result I have no idea which primer is the best, but the primer I now prefer is CCI, and it has nothing to do with consistency or flame temperature or any of that. CCIs fit the primer pockets just a little snugger, which means I get an additional load or two from my brass.
