Best Lube???

Go to Canadian Tire and get a 4L jug of a good full synthetic motor oil and get a tube of a good machining grease. This will last you your whole life. Don't be afraid to "overlube"

That's as good advice as I've seen on lubing guns, anywhere.

Guns are easy to lube. Throw oil or grease on it, depending on your particular requirements, and go.

I put the Mobil 1 full synthetic oil on all the screws and springs and parts and put the machining grease on all the metal to metal contact points. My revolvers have a very faint almost not noticable drag mark and my semi's have no barrel wear. I very genourously apply the oil and grease.

....but engine oil is specific for car Engines... I wonder if this is actually a good idea and not just a cheap but risky alternative...

$10,000 motor or a $1000 gun,I willing to bet both my balls and one of my neighbors that there has been significant more testing and research into automobile oil then gun oil.

Engine oil operate in various temps ( my diesel exhaust used to get over 1000* F almost to the point of melting alum ) subject to intense heat, also cleans carbons deposits, provides a film of oil on your cams, protects cylinder liners, seals piston rings etc so why wouldn't it be good for firearms?

9$ for a L of 5W30 SYN or 5W40 Diesel, Or what 14$ for a small bottle of gun lube? because it marketed for guns?

I hear ya. I'd rather buy the cheaper stuff too but what about the finish on the gun. Is there any articles on this or research?

Even cheaper engine oil is good. Gotta meet a certain requirement. Google engine oil and firearms. Everything you need is there.

The range officer told me dont buy all that crap , go to CT and get engine oil plus grease but dont buy BLUE color grease , flyes stick to it like crazy (may be it smells like sh*t ? )

5W30 and Swiss military gun grease is all I use on my firearms. Got 4 pots of grease with my K31s which should last me quite a while and when I run out I'll just head off to CTC for whatever cheap auto grease they have.
