Looking for some input on a ghost ring set up for my marlin 1895 Guide gun. I currently have the factory sights on the rifle and as much as they are accurate, I find I'm having a hard time picking up my target. Seeing as this is a close quarters bear gun I'm thinking faster is better. I'd like to find a larger ghost ring aperture and in a perfect world keeping the front sight the same. I'm not interested in the XS rail system, rather a somewhat low profile hooded ghost ring rear. I don't want to order from the US. Lets hear your suggestions and if you have pictures of your current set ups I would love to see them.
Thanks in advance

While I like Skinner sights I don't like them as much as I like XS Sights.

On my Marlin 1895GS in 45-70 I run Warne 2 piece nickel scope bases when I do not have a scope installed I install an XS Sights low Weaver backup ghost ring sight onto the rear scope base.

I use Leupold QRW rings to mount my scope.

edit to add

Here is a link to the ghost ring sight I use I also use a tall weaver backup on my Rem 700 LSS in 375RUM but use Leupold 2 piece bases.

If you have no intentions of ever installing a scope I'd go with these ones.

I went with the Wild West Gun GR kit front and back. I like the wings that protect the rear GR.

I don't know if they have a Canadian dealer anymore.

The problem today is getting an XS ghost ring imported, whereas Skinner is a company that supports Canadian shooters, with easy ordering and good customer support. I like XS products and wish it wasn't so.

rustywood trading co. deals in XS sights.

I have an old pair with the protective wings on them and i think they're great.

Wolverine also told me they could get them (XS) but it was quite a bit cheaper for me to order directly from brownells. Arrived in mailbox in just over a week if I remember correctly.

Looks like it's 135 usd for the rail system which comes to about 190 cad now before shipping and tax etc. Exchange rate is brutal right now.

I use receiver sights on most of my rifles. If I want a ghost ring, I just unscrew the aperture. They work perfectly, and, being close to the eye, have the added benefit of improving your vision when the aperture is installed. (not sure if your vision is improved as much with the aperture removed) I have many Williams sights, and use a steel Redfield sight on my 1886 Winchester.

I will second SuperCub's opinion that the aluminum Williams Foolproof is an awesome sight. They will take a lot of abuse.

Thank you for that. I contacted RWT and they're getting me the XS High Weaver ghost ring that I've been looking for, for a while now. If NECG made their Weaver version the same as they do their CZ and new Ruger versions, I'd have had one of those long ago, but the XS will work fine, as it does on my wife's Husky.

Hey no problem, buy me a beer next time I'm in Churchill. Funny that necg puts out so many variations of a peep sight when the cz one is they're only design worth its weight in dirt.

The Lyman/ Williams are great sights and the only way to go if you like swapping back and forth between several loads. I like the XS because it doesn't protrude over the left side of the action making for a tidier package.
