I have an enfield No.4, mk 1. I have an idea where I can get an original stock for it, but does anyone have an idea what kind of bayonet was made for them, and where a fella might find one ?

2 types actually, the 1st and most prevalent...

and the cooler of the 2 types (imho)...

There is another cruciform spike bayonet that is particularly rare and more often that not faked to separate unwary collectors from their $. Caveat Emptor!

Usually $15-$20 or so at any given gun show around here for the pig-sticker (spike) variety.

psmilitaria (Canadian outfit, decent folks to deal with) have them for $15 + shipping

NO7 MK1/L
Not as rare as the NO4 MK1 cruciform bayonet, but I've only ever seen (and bought) two. The one above cost me $300 but it's in immaculate condition.

Depending on the era of your No.4, only the cruciform and spike bayonets are WW2 correct.

^ correct! I got all excited when we started talking about Bayos:) The bladed bayonet was introduced near the end of the European conflict, (late 1944?) The No7Mk1 was 1958 (I think? check it.) Then the British commonwealth were using the FN.

No5 Mk1 started production in 1944, No7 Mk1/L was produced from 1944-1948, and No9 Mk1 started in 1947.

I have been reliably informed that this bayonet type was mostly used by the Ceremonial Guard of the Governor General's Foot Guards.
