Shorter 597 Barrel?

Can you get a shorter 597 heavy barrel anywhere?

I would love one that's 12".

I thought I read that VQ makes a barrel, but nothing is listed on their site? I would take it to a gunsmith and get it shortened, but I'm not 100% sure that is legal. The firearm would be still plenty over the 26" requirement, but under the 18" cut barrel law. The barrel already is under the length but is legal... I'm so confused :)
 
P.S. you also need to respect 26" overall lenght depending on your stock that can become a problem with short barrels.

Because folding stocks don't count if you can still operate the gun when folded etc etc...

I've never seen replacement 597 barrels but as I don't own one they haven't really been on my radar. I did do a quick search and couldn't find anything but your best bet is checking on RFC (Rimfire Central) in the 597 forums.

The heavy barreled models come 16.5.... isn't the cut below 18 inches only for shotguns?

level vs semi..... not quite the same.

I've been interested in a 12-14 inch 597 barrel like is available for the 10-22. Perhaps someone could make one.
