Is importing sporting magazines from the US legal?

I import mags all the time for my 340s. Anything 5 rounds or less is easy. Anything between 6 and 10 is OK as long as it is not for a semi auto. ATF will not allow anything over 10 rounds to export without a license.

IT'S A MAGAZINE geez of course u can

"of course u can" legally is a different thing...

OP, do some reading in the Legalese forum as this question comes up every couple of weeks. e.g. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...ipping-mags-from-US?highlight=export+magazine

The short answer is that, no, a friend in the US cannot just mail you a magazine since magazines are ITAR-controlled items and can only be exported by someone with the proper permits/licenses.

The longer answer is that, as long as the magazine is not prohibited in Canada, it can be imported by you without any issues; however, for every import, there is a corresponding export, which the US does not allow without following ITAR regulations.

According to Gunparts Corp in the US, magazines in excess of 10 rounds are ITAR, other mags of less capacity have no military value UNLESS for 50 BMG. Like I said I have ordered 12 three, four and five round mags in the last four months. No problems.

Gunparts Corp/Numrich is a licensed exporter, so your scenario does not match the OPs situations of an individual-to-individual sale. Do you have a reference to the exemption of < 10 rd magazines from ITAR? I've never heard of this, and am skeptical, but would love to be proven wrong.

I would also like to see that supposed exemption.

As long as its 5 rounds, less than $100 no problem, I ordered a 3 round for my CZ527 .223 and a 5 round for a Tikka T3 from Brownells in the last 3 months. The exchange is the penalty

I've dealt with Brownell's for over 25 years and recently they have stopped allowing me to purchase certain magazines due to the original manufacturer not having an Export licence.
