Must have reloading manuals?

ABC's of reloading

Lyman 49th

Lee

And to stray away from the norm.... Reloaders GUIDE by R.A. Steindler

The front section of almost any reloading data manual is with reading as well.

and don't get the CURRENT ones if possible- the loads have been lawyerized to the point of where they barely function the action- esp the top ends- sure this is ok for practise rounds, but what do you do when you want to make major and the book says that you're at top end- for instance the latest speer I have says 6 grains of 231 is top for a 2oo grain lead- I know the top end is actually 6.2 from other bullseye shooters tables and has been for years

My favourite is Lyman's. Hornady just ok for additional load data, but not nearly as well written. Hornady does have a little more on bullets, because they are trying to sell theirs.

Lyman, Lee, Hodgdon. If you buy bullet exclusive manuals the info is limited to their product. You don't have to buy powder manuals as the info is on line. Hodgdon is the most available powder so it doesn't hurt to have their magazine manuals if you can find one.

I'm just beginning to get into reloading and after sniffing around many web sites, I ordered those four on Amazon:

  • Lyman 49Th Edition Reloading Handbook;
  • Hornady 9th Edition Handbook of Cartridge Reloading;
  • The ABCs of Reloading: The Definitive Guide for Novice to Expert James, Rodney;
  • The Beginner's Guide to Reloading Ammunition: With Space and Money Saving Tips for Apartment Dwellers and Those on a Budget, Gregersen, Steven;

The first two I thought to be "essentials" since I am seeing those little red Hornady bullets boxes on every shelf in town (meaning I'm very likely to get some). The ABC book was well regarded as a general learner's guide, and the 4th book was just because I live in an apartment and the subtitle made me giggle. :d
