I have an M&P 40 that I'd like to upgrade. I want to go with a fibre optic front sight and improve the trigger. Are there other options besides Apex triggers or gunsmith work?

Apex is the leader and can give an outstanding trigger of about three pounds or just over five depending on whether you get the Competition or Duty Kit. I know of no other.

I got the flat faced trigger kit and have never been happier. can't see much more improvement with the similar cost if there is really something out there. everyone in my club tried loved it too.

I can't seem to find anyone in Canada who has the Apex flat faced trigger. They are sold out. The other Apex options are $300. I can't convince myself to spend $300 on a trigger for a $600 gun!

Amazon might still have them for $225. You are sol after that. The forward sear kit is going to run you about $300 on average.

Anyone know what I can expect to spend to have a trigger job done by a gunsmith? I'm not expecting accurate numbers but a ball park figure would help.

brownells. even with the ####ty canadian dollar right now, you would probably still pay less than 300 all in. I got mine a couple months ago when the dollar was @ 80 cents, so it's about 230 I think. worth every penny. and then pick up a 9mm conversion barrel @ around $250 tax in, plus some 9mm mags, you will have 2 amazing guns to play with for cheap.

Rather than spend a lot of money on stuff that likely will not result in much of actual improvement on how you shoot order an Apex striker block and a lighter trigger return spring and you will find you have a very nice smooth and lighter trigger pull. The reset will not be quite as fast as you get from either of the kits I mentioned and you still will have the hinged trigger but you will notice an improvement and save yourself a significant amount of money. Unless you are a very accomplished shooter you likely will get little benefit of a faster reset anyway, Oh you notice it when you are in the rumpus room in front of the TV set but when shooting quickly in IDPA or IPSC you will never notice how fast or slow the reset is. The reset though will be fast enough. Master type shooters would be able to take advantage of the faster reset but for most not so much.

I have the Competition Kit in my M&P Pro, the Pros innards in my old FS both in 9MM. I have the FSS Apex deal in my 40 Pro. The FSS trigger group does reset the fastest but you would never notice it in my scores. The flat trigger is different to be sure but not better IMHO. I do have a FS 40 with just a reduced trigger return spring in it and the trigger pull is lighter which makes the longer shots a bit easier.

I should add the Apex striker block is domed much more than the factory block which takes away the gritty feeling you get when pulling the trigger on an unmodified factory pistol.

From brownells, it always depends on the items. filter them by "available outside of USA" which happens to include this kit.

Thanks. I already did the 9mm mags and barrel. I thought Brownell's didn't ship to Canada? I'll look into it.

i ordered my kit in from brownells a month ago. 250CAD on the product + 45 bucks hst at the post office. brownells will send you an import form you have to fill out, then they'll ship it
