I took my new dar 22 out for some testing today and ran into some troubles. Note that the same exact issue occurred with factory 10 rnd and hc3 mags. First ammo tried was cci mini mags. At first i thought they were just feeding funny and binding while being pushed into the chamber. They would not push all the way in. See pic

Cci blazer did the same thing. Upon closer inspection i found the bolt was scraping and binding on the next round in the magazine

And scraping it pretty good

Tried fed blue box bulk ammo and there was slight scraping on the next round in the magazine but not nearly as bad, and out of the 30 rnds i had left, none failed to feed. Ill pull it apart to inspect closer tonight, but just wondering if anyone else has had these issues. All parts are bran new except the barrel.

Call Dlask. They are awesome and should be able to help

Did that. Said they couldn't begin to help without looking at the rifle. Not even a suggestion. Send it in and they will fix it but will cost me 80 dollars an hour. I didn't bother arguing warranty for the new parts at that point. And not happy about paying that kind of coin to make a new rifle function properly. It cost enough already.

Took apart and and everything looked as it should. Put back together and tried cycling a few minimags. Bolt is digging into the next round real bad. I guess cci is off the list :(

Is it a brand new DAR from Dlask or did you just purchased some components from them? Just asking because I am thinking about getting one but might not to.
Thx
Kody

Every component purchased new from dlask but the barrel ( dlask also) and stock bought off the ee. Kody, i wouldnt let this stop you from purchasing a dar 22. The components are all very high quality. Im sure also warranty wouldnt be an issue at all if you purchased the complete rifle from them. There are way too many good thing said about dlask to let this thread be your deciding factor. Im just curious if anyone else had this issue with any 10/22 components.

without seeing the rifle and going by what your saying is happening it sounds as if the bolt is too tight in the receiver.
im wondering if your charging handle is seated properly?
ive never seen a bolt damage the shell below it like that, thats why im thinking the bolt is hanging down lower then it should be.
if it is lower then it should be that you have to think what might be causing it to ride lower.
charging handle not fitting right or not fitting would be the obvious first thing.

that or the mags are pushing up too hard but i cant see that happening.

is there any grinding when you cycle the bolt with no mag in it?
it should be smooth like 2 blocks of butter sliding together.
if that is smooth then put a empty mag in, should still be smooth as the mag should be touching the bolt.

thats a place to start.

actually, if you have a iphone or a good phone just take a quick clip of yourself cycling it, that way i can compare it to my 2 to tell ya if its the same or different.

was just thinking to myself..... is there any damage happening to the underside of your bolt where it runs across the top of the mag?
if its damaging the shells like that i wonder if its scratching up the bottom of your bolt as well.

Thanks upnorth, I did think the action felt very rough when first putting it together. Absolutely not like butter that's for sure. I added one drop of oil along the guide rod and it seemed to clean it up quite a bit. I agree the charging handle might be the problem. It is seated properly but ill take it apart again tonight and get some pictures of wear marks. May be as simple as polishing or taking a bit of meat off the top of the charging handle.

ive had to take a little meat off of more then one charging handle in my days.
that seems to be the biggest problem with after market parts all fitting together is that charging handle.
ive even purchased brand new charging handles and just straight tossed them into the part bin because they where so far out of spec with the bolt.
would have been able to build one from scratch in the time it would have taken me to sand/dremal/polish the new handle to fit.

and when they dont fit perfect they throw the entire bolt cycle out of wack.
discombobulated it the word im using this week to explain stuff like that, so ill drop it here.

Sounds like the best place to start for sure. Strange being a dlask bolt, receiver and charging handle but who knows. Thanks for your help wayupnorth.

i cant speak to Dlask bolts, i run Kidd bolts in both my DAR builds.

i have run a Dlask charging handle before in one of my stock rugers and i remember i had to sand it down a lot and polish it up and it was a TIGHT fit into the stock ruger bolt.
if memory serves me i had to chew a little of the handle to even get it to fit into the bolt.

Well, a little bit of a Google and it turns out this can be a bit of a problem with precision aftermarket bolts. The kidd bolts were bad for this but have since been taken care of at the factory (or so I have read). Anyhow, I basically followed this simple video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IMEyTrHVcXM
Using the diamond plate on my edge sharp field sharpener. Bolt was out and in about 6 times before I was satisfied and now rather than gouging out, removing lead or digging into the next round so deep it would actually jam the bolt, it feeds silky smooth and leaves hardly a noticeable trace on the next round in the magazine. Canadian tire had fed 525 bulk for 34 dollars a box, a few hundred minimags on hand, now to get to accuracy testing this beauty of a rifle.

ive never heard of anyone rounding the front of their bolt before.
i radius and polish all of my bolts but ive never done the bolt face.

but if it works, then there ya go.

I never noticed on the kidd bolt i used to have, is the bolt face section that feeds the rounds on your kidd bolts rounded or are there sharp edges? This is the first i have heard as well, but there are a lot of issues like this posted on rimfire central. It is working good now so i guess all is well that ends well. Thanks for all the advice.
