I remember reading an article about building up ARs, they gave the example that you buy a cheap rifle for $X amount and start swapping out parts for $### amount and in the end have just about enough parts to make another rifle. They suggested buying either a stripped receiver and building what you want cheaper or spending the money first and getting what you are trying to build
