Just bought an old 12 Gauge SXS Damascus barrel shotgun, with 2 1/2 in. chambers. Does anyone know of a source for suitable shotshells in Quebec or Eastern Ontario. If you have some that you want to get rid of, please let me know.

Go to your nearest dealer/store who handles Kent Shells and get them to order you in a flat of Kent 2 1/2" gamebore. You can get plastic or paper hulls. The paper hulls with felt wads are a bit lower pressure than the plastic hulls.

Yes, either the gamebore or pure gold. But remember, these are made in England and their shot sizes are smaller than North America. So #7 would be more like #8 and #6 more like #7.
I assume you know for sure your damascus gun is safe to shoot?

I will get it checked out, but it appears to be in amazing shape for its age. No rust, cracks, pitting, etc...

Still, a whole flat is a lot of shells. Does anyone know of a store that actually stocks these, so that I can buy less than a whole flat.

Perhaps you could find 1 or 2 others who will split a flat with you. I know there are others out there wanting them as you are about the 4th person in a month to ask where 2 1/2" shells can be bought. Plus, these shells can be used in any gun, likely other than semi-auto, for upland hunting. There are many times that 2 3/4" shells aren't really required for upland so these work fine. Plus they are easier on a gun.

Last month, I had sold 8 boxes of 12ga #7 Pure Golds. After the hand-off, the buyer casually mentioned that he planned to use those in a Benelli Montefeltro (I think) and I pointed out that the shotgun might not effectively cycle the shells and offered to return his money in the event he made a misinformed purchase. Anyway, he still went ahead with the deal and reported a few days later that the shells cycled fine in his shotgun. Whether those will work well in each and every semi is a different question obviously.

BTW, I did find a local source for Gamebore Gold shells. However, the dealer talked me out of using those shells in my gun, because the proofmarks show that the gun was proofed for BP loads only. His recommendation is to handload some BP shells.

Do you reload? If not, you want to make sure you know what you are doing.

I reload rifle rounds. I have friends who reload shotgun shells. BTW, bilozir.net sells primed 2 1/2 shells, overshot cards and fiber wads. I have some real BP on hand. For a small quantity, all that I need is a shell crimper, to make a roll crimp.
