Just received final part to finish my build, NEA 12" handguard with barrel nut.
Only problem is they didn't send the retaining screws!!! F#*$!!!

Emailed NEA concerning the issue with the handguard and also needing a proper gas tube, waiting to here back and hoping for the best. I hope things go well so I can give a positive review when I've put some rounds down range. Would have love to been finished it last night so I could've used it today during my IDPA match, but stuff happens

Update on part issues. NEA has been really fast in getting in touch with me concerning my part issues. Sent email on Saturday, replied late Saturday, received email Monday morning, by 12:00 Monday they informed me that they would be sending me the handguard screws, new roll pin for gas block, and proper gas tube. So far nothing negative to say, everything on my end has been a positive experience. Don't be quick to judge by other forums. So far I am impressed, will give update when parts arrive, and review when assembled and tested.

Had an NEA AR for a while, terribly reliability issues, fit and finish not what I would have expected for a rifle of that cost. Sold it at a big loss with full disclosure.

Glad to be rid of it, it would take some serious convincing to buy another product of theirs ever again... and it isn't very convincing to see how many people have problems.

Curious is it was first Gen/run of there rifles. I've heard of some issues about there first run fit and finish, anodizing, etc.. but to be fair they are new in the market, Im sure colt had quite a few issues when they came into production, some 50 some odd years ago. I cant write anything off yet, but Im am still impressed with there customer service so far. They've, from what Im told, have restructured quite a bit due to the unsatisfied customer feed back, me personally Im looking forward to them flourishing, expanding to other avenues of the firearm industry. But I've still yet to complete and fire my own.....

Customer service is beyond top notch for them. And the guys at the shop are pretty damn cool. Luckily for me, Im minutes away so any issues Ive had, Ive just done a drop-in and theyve been more than helpful.

They've definitely had hiccups, but theyve come a long way as well. Only getting better, and Im glad to keep running their gear.

Not what you would expect from a new company making one of the cheapest AR's available?

Every company has growing pains, they've changed suppliers for some of their outsourced parts in order to increase the quality and consistency of their product and have stood behind everything they've sold from day one.
I'm not sure why so many people dwell on the past and can't move on and accept that NEA has improved and deserves more than the constant bashing that's all based on their early production units.

I have an NEA upper, lower and BCG and I'd buy their products again. My only negative was a 16 inch barrel I had that had too large of a gas port causing the rifle to cycle a little harshly but I've heard they are using colt specs for their ports now so that should be a thing of the past now as well.

Update...... finally received all miss/incorrect parts and finished assembly. Took it out to the range and performed a barrel break in up to 50 rounds. With a beautiful day, empty range I was left alone with my thoughts and my rifle. First impression- NEA has alway won me over with the feel and conformity of there Handguard, short railed ends at 3 and 9 o'clock on the end of the barrel is far more fetching then complete rail all along the side. Colour of upper and lower were off a little, until I cleaned and impreagnated both with my oil of choice, giving an even tone through out the rifle, which ironically is stated in the manual I downloaded. -Functionality- during my break in I was consistently inspecting the rifle for and signs of premature wear, all the while not even noticing that being a new rifle had not had any malfunctions, failures to feed nothing.-final thoughts- only having fired 50 rounds through it its hard to give a credible review on all aspects of the rifle, accuracy, reliability,etc.. I can say that I'm thoroughly impressed with the rifle, has not had the kudos it deserves, and would not hesitate in purchasing/building another, actually I plan on building a CQB version with there pistol lower, but well have to see with the price of ammo for these pigs..lol Thanks NEA!!!
Shoot safe and have fun

I have zero interest in taking the risk with NEA, their ugly grey finish and history of problems makes the decision to choose other companies a simple one.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I don't think NEA made the bolts sold with their rifles though.

NEA sent me a new bolt, haven't tried it.

I selected "I had minor issues" in the poll as it pertains to the entire BCG that came with the rifle. Had numerous FTF issues that I was blaming on load development. Bought a DD bolt and have not had one issue since, including the same test loads giving the old one fits.

Also had this issue with my NEA, bought just over a year ago. It failed within 15 rounds. NEA Customer care was great sent out new bolt, firing pin, etc and I have 300+ rounds through it now with no issues. I voted Major issue btw ;-)

The 2 digits after the "NEA15" are the year of manufacture. You'd want to see a "15" to ensure its current gen. Example, NEA151500###X.

I was an early adopter so mine says NEA15130000XX.

Anybody have any idea how to tell the age/gen from the serial number?
