Hello

The guy at bass pro said I should clean the barrel with a dry patch . So no oil or solvents in the barrel?

How do I properly clean an air rifle ? Can I use cleaning solvents on cleaning patches in the the barrel? Oil exterior metal ? Oil interior of barrel ?
Can I clean it well without taking it all apart ?
Thx

Pyramyd air has everything you need to know about airguns. Try goggling and if you cannot find nothing then ask. Also I'm sure if you searched the airgun forum there would be your answer.

I clean mine exactly like a regular rifle, patches dipped in bore cleaner, then oiled. I believe you can buy a cleaning pellet that you shoot, then run a patch through.

Vfg felt pellets, made in Germany from wool. I use them on my real guns(calibre specific). But they were designed for field target use.

I will go through the manual again today but yesterday I didn't see much on maintenance. I heard you shouldn't shoot when there is oil in the barrel because it can cause damage.so I assume clean regularly with light amount of solvent on a patch and a small amount of oil ran thru as well wth a patch. Wipe down metal with oil on a rag. Before shooting run a dry patch thru.
I've looked online, seems to say the same.
I still wouldn't mind tips from air rifle pros ;)

These are terrific I'm starting to use them for my pistols at the moment..the only thing is finding the right calibres and in stock

Doesn't shooting these light weight felt pellets damage the spring on a springer? Especially a high power springer?
You have to stack them in multiples, or load in front of a normal pellet.
If you fire them 1 at a time you will essentially be dry firing.
BAD!!!!!!!
P.S.
Once your rifle is broken in it will rarely need a barrel clean.
I have a HW 97kt that goes multiple thousands of shots before any accuracy issues arise.

Thanks for this. The second link you posted is excellent. Good to know for anyone like myself who has one or more moderate to high end air snappers. I will definitely be referring to this when I do some cleaning next week. People buying new air guns would be wise to pay heed about cleaning them before they shoot them.

I plan on cleaning it but primarily with just light oil outside and in the barrel

Crossmans pellgun oil is the best to use for interior lubing? Regular gun oil for exterior and inside of barrel ?

I wanna hear what the long time break barrel shooters do to maintain air rifles for decades!

Pellgun oil is only for co2 and pneumatic airguns. Do not use it in the chamber of a spring airgun. They actually produce a chamber oil. Conventional oil's can't be used in the chamber because they will ignite and burn your piston seals and possibly damage the spring. Myself I've taken my spring rifles apart and use a mollie paste specifically for spring guns. After doing this I don't perform any internal maintenance for years or until I see a change in performance. I oil the outside of the gun with a regular lubricant to prevent rust and that's it.

Cleaning the barrel with the felt pellets works good - oil them slightly or put solvent on them. Use two or three in one shot. As kids we loaded our Dianas with a felt pellet, pushed it down the barrel about an inch or so, filled in some No.8 lead shot and sealed it of with another felt pellet on top. Worked good on mice within 7-8 ft.

Where can I use pellgun oil on my rifle ? Can I use it on the spring coil and break barrel lever area? What else can I use in the chamber to minimize the chance of dieseling ?
