Hi everyone,

I recently picked up a west German Sig P226 in 9mm and I was wondering about compatibility with the caliber x-change kits from Sig.

Specifically, will the 22LR kit work with older guns? Also are the P220 22lr conversion kits compatible with the p226?

I've searched online and it doesn't seem like there's a consensus, even from Sig reps themselves. Anyone have first hand experience with it?

Thanks,

P220 and P226 .22LR kits are not interchangeable. P229 and P226 are with a barrel swap.

As for your W. German P226 question. Yes, the .22LR kit will work. At least they did, and still do, on mine.

Hmm, good info that the exchange kits will still work.

The reason I'm curious about the compatibility is that the cabelas near me has 3 kits in stock for the p220 and none for the 226. Based on reviews people have used the p220 one on the p226 but I'd like to confirm it as I don't think they'd let me return it if it didn't work...

I have kits for all 3 my 226 229 and 220 I tried to put on the 220 kit on the 226 and it did not seem to fit and I did not want to force it .I have not had success with the p220 excange working on my old west german p220 9mm, the take down lever does not want to lock in place .

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for testing this for me. I wonder if it depends on the gun? But it seems like the manufacturing tolerances wouldn't be that far off.

I'll try to see if I can find someone local with a 22 lot for the 226 and see if it will fit on my gun.

I had to fit a .22 conversion barrel to a German-framed 229. When assembled the locking lug was so tight that it pushed the barrel up off the block and put enough pressure to impede the movement of the slide. A *little* polishing and it's been working for thousands of rounds in, oh apparently 3 years now. (If you want to read about my solved issue it's in this old thread.)

Hi Everyone,

A bit late, but I figured I'd post it for information in case anyone is looking in the future.

I managed to get my hands on the P226 22LR conversion kit and it's been working flawlessly, little bit over 1000 rounds of Winchester bulk stuff through it. Occasional FTF or FTE but I can chalk it up to not being oiled properly when I got it or a limp wrist.

Thanks for the offer to test the kit Stefan, I would have taken you up on it but I'm in Winnipeg, little bit far for a test.

I ran my p226 22LR dry, with grease only. Never complained once even with bulk pack ammo.
I guess every gun is different, but the manufacturer does recommend using oil.

I had some issues with short stroking early on due to thickened grease in low temperatures.
