Ok so a friend is taking the local Hunter safety/ PAL course. The other night the instructor stated that the SKS was going to be re-classified to Restricted shortly. His reasoning was that they are too easy to convert to Full Auto. I have 3 of them so I am calling "Bull" on that one. But after the Swiss Arms crap who knows?

Any thoughts ?

Ken

Would not fall down my chair if they get restricted status along with half a dozen more... JP.

Rumours again , nothing more. And the instructors reasoning is idiotic. If it was easily converted to full auto then they would prohibit it not classify it as restricted for starters. These statements are pure heresay and the instructor shouldn't be flapping his gums really.

I'm shooting the hell out of my SKS' this spring and summer, cause I'm not segregating them to approved range use only, and I'm not turning them in...

Why so many idiots teaching the PAL course now? It seems a lot of them have and distribute their own view of our laws to their students. Seems like this guy promotes further restriction and confiscation.
Maybe we should have windy Wendy teaching the course!

All hell should break loose if they pull such a retarded move. The SKS issue may just be the straw that brakes the camels back on this one. I wish rumors like this would stop, I think they're started to gauge acceptance. I'm also very tired of hearing instructors touting BS:bsFlag:

Well said!

IF and I mean IF the RCMP convince the government these 11 guns are "easy to convert to F/A" by whatever criteria they use, I sincerly doubt these will be classified as restricted... Easy to convert means prohibited.

The instructor is probably an RCMP shill ; a lot of pro firearm instructors are being replaced with pro RCMP instructors who have their own anti gun agenda.....there are many semi autos that the RCMP want to be restricted , or banned out right ; the SKS is just one of many....

OK, so they "restrict" it. There are literally tens of thousands of them out there. There are some who will register them, more who will not. There isn't enough police manpower to round them all up or sit and ranges checking who's got what in their gun cases. Some have never seen an 'approved' range and get shot in the bush only.

As for those who couldn't care less about new 'restrictions', thanks for nothing. Tell us what you shoot so we can applaud when YOUR guns hit the list.

I suspect the the RCMP will want to restrict the SKS first so people will register them ; then once the RCMP knows where they are , then they will prohibit them . When the CPC got rid of the LGR ; it set the RCMP anti gun agenda back many , many years....it is tough to seize a firearm if you do not know who owns , or possesses , them....

I've noticed this and there have been reports right here on CGN. It has to stop ...

This is exactly right, it would be prohibited. However, I think its the old shoot for the moon and grab what you can take along the way. Justifying prohib after having these rifles in the wild since the beginning is a hard sell. They can't do this without serious, serious support - but trumping up a reason to make it restricted - I'm sure has been dreamt about a million times over. An every mans affordable rifle with lower cost ammunition supply - can't have that! :S

Anyone that has been even slightly observant in RCMP and Liberal Shenanigans can't deny what they've been doing in action.

That was the purpose behind the registry to start with, so yeah, great observation.

Given the mighty uproar over the Swiss and 858 reclassification, I kind of hope they do reclassify the SKS, Mini-14, M1A, etc. all in one fell swoop.

It would be the absolute end of compliance with the firearms act, and it's downfall.

Because the hunting and fishing associations were the only ones willing to work with CFC back in the day. My wife's instructor kept using the term "less dangerous than a handgun" to describe a long gun.

Just because you don't enjoy them , is not to say others don't.

I shoot mine in a safe location on Crown land all the time.
I also clean up a pile of shotgun hulls all year long....

I probably own at least a copy of each and, true i dont shoot them much, but it would make me mad to see this, just would not be surprised if they go after them... JP.
