I just bought an M&P9 Pro Series and brought it out to the range the other day for the first time.

My mags are so stiff that I can't load a full 10 round mag into the pistol if the slide isn't locked back. Even just to put the 10th round in is a feat.

Anyone else's M&P like this?
 
You need to trim a small amount off the bottom of the followers.

If you want to clean up the trigger pull, you can easily round the firing pin block. If you want to really make it sweet, add the Apex FFS trigger kit; it is pure magic, even for the new Pro or Pro Cores. FWIW, I actually like my rounded FP block better than the one that came in the Apex kit.

Yup, drop the base to the mag, cut the legs off the bottom of the follower by about 1/8" and then enjoy! Quick easy mod.
 
I left mine loaded for a week, unloaded them periodically. Then left them loaded for another week, now I don't need the mag loader to load them. They're still stiff but I can load all ten rounds manually, try that before you go trimming anything.
 
You cut down the follower so you can have one in the chamber and 10 in the mag. If you don't, you will have to push pretty hard to get it to catch. For most people this isn't an issue until you need to do a mag change during a competition or other reason. The same condition occurs with a lot of other mags that are pinned for 10. If you pin/fix it for 10.5 or just shy of 11, it makes engaging the magazine so much easier!
 
I trimmed a bit more than 1/8" from the legs. 10th round goes in easily and mag will seat with action closed. Easy fix. Just rub the plastic follower on a course file. I made a mark on the leg with a felt marker,so I could see how much I had to take off.

Some are worse than others. The new mags are frankly awful. Why Smith doesn't change suppliers is a mystery to me. Trimming the follower is the answer though.

My M&P mags were very stiff as well but after some use (and just leaving them loaded) they have loosened up and it's no problem to load 10. Still tight but not bad at all. I haven't ever modified them.

This.

I just use side cutters and snip the followers off and then hit them with sand paper if you feel the need to clean up the edges a bit.

People will have a fit about this I'm sure but I clip the springs a couple coils also, still 100% reliable, easier to load and makes the gun more reliable if you want to run a lighter recoil spring.
 
I find them hard to load as well but not impossible. They don't seem to have changed at all with use though, still stiff as when they were new.

haha, come on someone had to say it!

ive got 30 M&P mags and while stiff ive never had a problem getting the 10th round in.
none of them are new generation mags though, i hear the newer ones are bad.
