Norinco type 81 classified as non-restricted

Can't wait to get my dirty hands on one. The Full wood type 81 is looking mighty appealing. I learned my leasson with my metal side folder VZ. And won't ever buy one again... LoL

Up for one too but if they were designed for 455mm as memory serves, how could they be destined for the cdn market - meaning more sales in NR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fact that its sks similar means I probably need a better corrosive cleaning vat!

I kinda agree. I dont see the allure of this rifle at all. Dont get me wrong, its nice its finally coming in but its a glorified SKS that takes AK mags.

If you got the money to burn, by all means pick one up. But to pay a thousand or more for a uglier version of a SKS that takes AK mags I will have to pass.

Where did you read that it can accept AK magazines? From what I googled earlier, the type 81 magazines are ever so slightly wider than AK magazines and do not fit.

The Chinese were big fans of the SKS and did borrow from it for the design of the Type 81 but it's not the same rifle. It does use a short stroke gas piston just like many other rifles. The bolt is rotating, rather than tilting like an SKS and the trigger group is not at all compatible. It's the best features from a variety of rifles from that era for sure but is hardly an SKS. It has better sights, an adjustable gas regulator, an improved bolt design, a smoother action and the list goes on.

Careful. People won't want to hear anything like that. It doesn't fit the "it sucks" rhetoric.

From what I read the type 81 has 3 proprietary magazines. However they will also take AK mags. If you use the type 81 magazine the bolt hold open will work on the last shot. If you use AK mags the bolt hold open will not work.

Looks interesting... surprised this wasn't deemed "too scary" by the firearms lab.

Does it take Type 56 (AK) furniture? If so, I'll know where I'll be buying it from.

That's not a Type 81. IIRC that's a Type 84S, definitely an AK variant.

Type 81? Doesn't look like anything special to me, like an altered SKS. I'm sure this won't be as popular as some would think unless 10rd pistol mags come in. I'm sure it'll be priced around $1000 or more too. But that's just me...

what the hell is going on at the RCMP first those Turkish shotguns now this.

Maybe the RCMP is trying to make the Liberals crap themselves and start changing laws when they see all the wonderful new rifles coming on the market.

What better way to get them to act than to just start allowing scary looking things in.

I'd like to think there's no hidden agenda.... However, I was born at night, but it wasn't last night.... :)
