i'm not really sure where to post this to get the best answers, so since it's a Kidd 10/22 im after i guess i'll start here. i'm looking at options to have a complete build sent from the US. I found a website called borderview international who claims they are experienced exporting rifles legally to Canada. once contacted, here is their reply email:

Hi Levi,

Thank you for your inquiry about our firearm export/import services. Firearm-related exports from the U.S. to Canada are our primary service, and we'd be very happy to take care of yours.
We have exported many products for KIDD, and do not foresee any issue with the export of the specific firearm you mentioned.
The info below explains the process, pricing and normal timeline for an export/import. Whether you're still trying to decide whether to proceed, or you've already bought a gun to be exported, it's important that you read through this email to understand how it works, and to avoid unnecessary delays or costs to your shipment.

Process
While we will take care of a majority of the work to be done, there are a few things that are up to you:
(1) Find and purchase the items you wish to import: whether you buy from an auction site like GunBroker.com, a gun dealer, a private seller, or aren't actually 'buying' at all (i.e. inheritance, job transfer), it's up to you to locate the gun(s) or related items you wish to import, and to make payment arrangements with the seller.
(2) Provide the seller/shipper with a couple of important documents: they'll need a copy of our "FFL" in order to ship any gun to us, which is included in the attached documents packet. And, very importantly: you must insist that they include a completed copy of our one-page 'Transfer Form' in an envelope on the outside of the shipping box. Whether you fill out the form or they do -- it is required to be included so we can properly sort the package to be exported to the right person! There's a $50 charge for a missing or incomplete Transfer Form, so do what you can to make sure it's included with the shipment, and completely filled out. Note that once they ship, it's your responsibility to obtain tracking information and to verify that the item arrives at our secure facility.

(3) Provide us with your current PAL information: in order to ship a gun or ammo to you, we'll need your PAL information. For Non-Restricted firearms, send us your PAL number and date of birth (a scan or picture of your PAL works too). For Restricted firearms, also include: your place of birth and gun club name. You can send this information by reply email to this message.
(4) Sit back and relax while we process your export: we know that you're excited to get your gun, and that you may even like to check the status every week. While we wish there was less government paperwork and wait times, it's a reality that nobody can avoid, so the average wait time is approximately 6 to 8 weeks from the time your gun arrives at our office. But don't worry -- we've exported thousands of guns to Canada so you can rest easy that your gun is in good hands. We maintain a very secure facility with proper insurance, and as soon as the export license is approved we're less than five miles from the Canadian border and will get your gun imported and prepped for shipment to you (or in-person pickup if arranged). Please do not contact us to check status until at least 6 weeks have gone by.

Pricing
Our pricing is pretty simple: $249 USD for the first gun, $149 for each additional gun on the same export shipment, plus 5% of the value of the exported merchandise, plus $50 per Restricted classified firearm. For ammo, parts and accessories: $149 USD for the first line item, $75 for each additional line item on the same export shipment, plus 5% of value. Other than that, you'll just pay for shipping which is typically $30-50 per gun, and any applicable taxes / duties (such as HST, GST, PST -- based on where you live). There are a few other possible costs, such as a missing Transfer Form or a Tactical Surcharge -- full pricing details are on our website at this link.

Timeline
As discussed above, the average wait time is 6 to 8 weeks from the time your shipment arrives to our facility. This means that some take even longer, while some go faster. Because of this, we really encourage you to not expect to receive your shipment for about two months, and be pleasantly surprised if it goes faster. Please, refrain from calling or emailing to check the status until most of this time has passed, as we assure you we'll be in touch as soon as there's any meaningful news (like when we're ready to ship!).

Next Steps

If you haven't yet found the items you will purchase, you should continue to shop around. Then, once you have made a purchase, proceed with the process as described above, making sure to have the shipper include your completed Transfer Form. If after reading through this you still have unanswered questions, I'd encourage you to check out these FAQ on our website. If you still have questions, please reply to this email and we'll work to make sure your questions are answered.

Thank you again for your inquiry, and we look forward to serving you!

My question is if anyone on CGN has gone through this process or a similar one? I would be interested to hear how it went for you. and for some drool factor, here is the rifle i'm after:

thanks in advance for any experience or advice.

I can't offer anything in terms of previous experiences but wow that's a nice rifle. The sporter version with the McMillan and also very nice.

A semi-auto with a 1/2 guarantee? That's awesome

That can get qute costly since its in US $$$ If its a cheaper gun, the import charges could possibly outweigh the original cost of the gun.

That's true, not something you would want to make a habit of, that's for sure. For something like this kidd rifle though, I'm not sure I'll ever see one for sale in Canada, or at least I never have so far. It's something I wouldn't mind paying the extra money for.

ive used both Prophet River and Irungunz to import guns before and both where good to deal with.
Irungunz was the cheaper of the 2 at one time, not sure if they still are or not.
also i found Irungunz to be a little faster.
as long as your purchase is there before their cut off date (the 16th?) your gun will be here by the end of the month.
so within the month is not bad.

keep in mind that you can import the rifle by yourself.
you just need to go down and buy it and do up all the paperwork youself.
granted you also need to be sure that they will sell to you as well, some places will not sell to you unless your a US resident.

for the $200 it costs i just have Irungunz import it for me, no paperwork, no worries.

about the Kidd guns, i know one fella on CGN's had one and sold it off.
not sure why he did, he said it was a nice gun but he still flogged it off in the end.

while i would love to try one out and i have contemplated buying one and importing it i like the route that i went with my gun.
i ordered up all the stuff i wanted and put the gun together myself.
gave me a very intimate knowledge of the inner workings of the gun and also how to fix problems that come up.
dont regret doing it at all.
it was expensive but it was fun.

the only part you cant get in Canada is the receiver, so you could put together a entire gun of kidd parts and substitute the receiver with a Dlask one.
Dlask carries Kidd barrels, bolts, charging handles, single and double stage Kidd trigger groups, bolt buffers and counter sunk pins.
everything but the receiver.

I have tried to buy from Kidd, but my experience is that they will not sell to canadians under any circumstances. If you find a way to purchase from them and then import through a third party, please let me know.
Cheers

well they should be ok to sell to you and ship it to the FFL of your choice.
both the above listed canadian import companies have gun stores in the states with FFL's so there should be no problems selling to us.

that said, Cabela's down in the states - the actual stores, most of them wont sell to canadians now, i talked to a manager of one and that was a mandate handed down from the main office.
same fella also offered to buy the gun i wanted and ship it to the FFL of my choice.

It is fun to put together yourself, and I have done so a few times already. The KIDD rifle I'm looking at has a threaded receiver to mate with the barrel as well as a second takedown bolt at the rear of the receiver. So building with a different receiver isn't an option. I shot prophet river an email and waiting to hear back, I'll do the same with irunguns.

if im not mistaken Dlask also has a threaded receiver and rear tang as an option.
might be something to look into.
i also see that Kidd sells the rear tang as a kit, ive contemplated picking that up at add onto my 2 DAR guns.
