Oprod / Receiver Contact

Hello Nutters.

Question for those M305 experts learned in such things -- can you bend an oprod where it contacts the slot in the receiver? After centering my oprod guide on the gas cylinder I've noted that I'm getting a little excessive / gritty oprod contact (and a little binding) between the receiver channel and the oprod tab. My question is, can I remove the oprod and gently bend it so it's not contacting the receiver as firmly -or- can I dremel / polish / smooth out / etc. the oprod channel (if that is indeed its name) where the tab rides outside of the receiver? Mine is full of machining marks and isn't at all smooth, so when my oprod moves it binds a little bit at its most rearward point and is quite gritty through the rest of its travel.

Or, do I just keep it greased and shoot it 'til it wears in?

You centered the op rod with the gas cylinder, did you confirm that your barrel is indexed properly with the receiver first??

The short answer is yes.....

In fact I have found about 50% of USGI op-rods require tweaking... Read un-bending and or filing when installing on a Nork receiver .....

If the op rod was installed with an off center guide, then you may need to tweak your oprod a bit to get proper alignment!

I usually use a wood bench and a rubber mallet to tweak op-rods, and very very rarely once the geometry is correct will you need to file the tab...

Cheers!

Is your op rod binding here? If it is don't file the tab. Picture courtesy of 45ACPKING. See post #9 in the link below.
