Will a magazine from a SIG P226 .40 S&W work in a 9mm P226? Will it feed and function and if so how many extra 9mm rounds will it hold?

I have P226's in both calibers and have been meaning to try but never have. Maybe I'll load up the snap caps and let you know.

I have a sig p226 that I got in 22 lr. I have the 9mm and 40 conversion kits, the 9mm rounds keeps popping out of the 40 magazine.

As mentioned above. Some say different but my experience showed that it worked well for the first few but once spring tension started to build it either fed unreliably or simply puked out the rounds. Others have had better success and it does work on other guns, but not in all cases.

From what I understand only Beretta mags will work reliably this way although I have read that some Glock mags work with 9 in a .40.

I know for a fact Browning Hi Power mags won't.

Doesn't work at all in any of my Glock 40 mags. I think the guys that say it works, "make" them work. Which we all know is naughty..

I tried 9mm snap caps in two of the five .40 magazines I have and they seemed to manually cycle with no problems I only have four snap caps so it would be interesting to see how it all works if I loaded the mag with 13. The 9mm rounds do stay in the mag, but just barely. Maybe I'll take it further and give it a go at the range next time I go.

I haven't tried it extensively, but I have probably run 10 loaded .40 Smith & Wesson mags through a 9mm P226 with no issues.

Couldn't get the same scenario to work in the Glock.

I have a Norinco np-22 9mm (sig 226 clone). The .40cal mags work just fine and hold 13 rounds. I was having an issue with the side locking back and it still having one round left in the mag, but the follow seems to have worn just enough that it doesn't do that anymore. Never touched the feed lips either. I would expect that a real Sig would have similar results.

Thanks to all. It sounds like the best bet is to stick with the 9mm magazines.

Guess again... my friend shooting my P226 9mm with a Checkmate (who makes factory mags for Sig) .40 magazine. It even worked in my Sub 2000 226 version in 9mm. Never had a stoppage. Ended up selling the .40 mag (only one I had) with my .40 X-Change kit though.

Only one that I find that works is the factory "Checkmate" Sig 226 .40 mags. Mec-Gar .40's don't seem to work reliably.

The Glock 23 mags I've tried in my Glock 19's have worked, although I haven't run hundreds of rounds this way. They hold 13 rounds of 9mm.

My Glock 35 40 cal mags kinda work in my Glock 34 9mm . As mentioned earlier rounds keep popping out of the top .I don't try to use them any longer.
