They are not that hard to do. A ball cutter and a mill and a few minutes of set up 
It's a nice touch cosmetically - I'm not sure what TacOrd is charging for that mod as I din't request it on my gun. I have a mill here and all the right tooling to flute a bolt, I simply didn't bother, but if you like the look - go for it.

What do you mean? The ports reduce muzzle flash.

I got my VMT bolt fluted and TiN coated, IMO it was well worth the $120. I'd like to see what you could do in your basement, just not on any of my gear.
If it was worth $120 to you, then it was indeed worth it. I'm not slagging TacOrd, I love their work. But the fluting, at best reduces weight slightly. Otherwise, it just looks cool. The TiNi is another matter, it may reduce friction somewhat.
I think you'd be surprised what I can do "in my basement". For example, I run a 6x26 3 axis knee mill with DRO and a 4' Southbend 9A.

Great looking shorty, how do you like the new Surefire DSF? I'm just starting to put together a 14" 870 and want to go Surefire as well and wondering if I should search for an older 618 or take the plunge and get the new DSF. Also where did you pick yous up?

I'm still waiting on my Manners rifle stock to arrive from the states, been on order almost 10 months now, going to be building that Defiance action in .338LM through Casey that you had clued me into last year... Gonna be a hell of a build once finally done.
Sure takes forever to get custom parts all together though.

What Proof Research barrel did you end up going with? I considered one but have never tried their barrels before... I ended up with a bartlein 5R 1-9.35 twist in Whitley Palma profile, Accurate mag double stack single feed mags (Long magazines, can mag feed the longest of loads for mag feeding the ULD CNC projectiles...) and a custom manners folding stock. Probably will put a Trigger tech trigger and an APA fat bastard on mine as well.

That ought to be a slick rig once it's done. It's killing me to wait so long for parts for a build, this is already the longest and most expensive build I have done, coming into month 13 already and still waiting on the last bit lol.
This is my dream .338LM though... gonna be a kickass 2000 meter build if it all comes together properly.
