Hello everyone!

Blow the dust off of your shotguns and check your ammo supply! SSA will be host to a shotgun match on Saturday March 5th. Compete in one of three classes: semi, pump, or old school. Match fee will be $15, with all funds going to support the club. The number of participants will be capped due to a limited timeframe and a limited number of ranges where stages can be shot simultaneously. Registration will be required in advance and SSA members will have the exclusive opportunity to register until Friday February 12th before registration opens to non-members.

The club is located approximately halfway between Owen Sound and Chatsworth, Ontario.

The particulars:

- Match date: March 5
- Registration & payment ($15): 8:30am
- Safety brief: 9am
- Match begins: 9:30am
- The match will consist of 4 stages
- Targets will include steel, paper, and other reactive targets. Scoring will be time-based, and you will be penalized with a miss for any steel target left standing or otherwise unengaged target. Should a target malfunction you will be permitted to reshoot the entire stage. Slug targets will simply be scored as hit or miss. Placement within the target will not be scrutinized.

- All shotguns of all flavours and capacities are match-legal
- All methods of carrying ammunition are match-legal
- Shot size is restricted to #7.5 or smaller
- Round count will be less than 75 shot, and less than 5 slugs

- A heated area will be open for people to use during the match, with food & drinks available.

I love the door-breaching part at the 30-second mark.

It looks like a pretty elaborate set-up you guys have there.

Built the door prop last spring and no one's managed to shoot the door itself yet.

Scores are now up for viewing on practiscore. Congratulations to our winners speedjunkiesracing (semi auto) and mississaugagunnut (pump). Thanks to everyone for a fun & safe shoot! And thanks again to everyone who helped with clean-up, tear-down, stage reset, and even grabbing a timer to help move things along (thanks Sam). We were stretched pretty thin, and the match wouldn't be possible without that kind of participation from the shooters.

Hope to see you all at the next one, but hopefully with fewer gun failures (4/5 versa maxs went down?) and one less catastrophic failure....which we're now 2/2 on.
 
What kind of failures did you guys see with the vmaxs?

Also, any vids or pics?
Would love to get a feel for the match.
Hopefully make it out to one in the future.

Yes there will be videos available shortly.

One had light primer strikes all day, even after disassembly and cleaning the pin of all lube. Another appeared to have a bad extractor, another failed to feed fresh shells from the magazine, and there were many ejection failures from a number of guns.

A mag-fed SAP6 also broke pretty much immediately and was down and out for the whole match. The pump cracked and let go of the action bars. Temp was -10 in the morning, warming up to 0 by mid-day.

I thought I had overheard someone saying they were running a SAP6, was wondering how it held up through the stages, I guess it didn't go well...

And that versamax in our morning squad was painful to watch, like 5 light strikes on the first stage alone.

My Supernova ran like a champ, I just have to learn how to shoot it now...
 
I forgot to turn the camera on for the first string of Stage 1. Easy to see I totally f'd up on stage 4 - not once but twice grabbing a slug off my saddle instead of shot. I ate the time it took to make the mistake and ate the penalty for dumping the live round the first time. Cost me the match! Just ask mississaugagunnut - he'll tell you all about it :p

Goes to show gear consistency is important. Under pressure you go on autopilot and fall to your level of training. Big takeaway from the match for me: always have the same saddle configuration.
