I have a couple ARs, but doing my first build from scratch. Just about everything is complete now. The problem I am having is the bolt doesn't seem to rotate enough to come free of the barrel. It comes free if I mortar it, but pulling the charging handle alone isn't enough to free it. Everything is well lubed. Carrier comes back about a quarter inch when I pull on the charging handle, but then the bolt catches the inside of the feed ramps. Please help!!

Did you buy the bolt and BCG as a complete unit or separately? What brand?
Can you move the bolt in the BCG by hand? It should be stiff.
I know it's impossible but gotta ask if the bolt is installed correctly. The extractor is on the right side?
If you didn't boo-boo somehow, I can't see a problem. Did you try another BCG in it to see if the same problem occurred?
If the same problem happens with another BCG, then the issue could be how you installed the barrel.

What type of charging handle do you have? Is it a Raptor knock-off?
Apparently some of these charging handles don't catch the top of the carrier to move it backward and start the bolt rotation and instead get jammed after moving a small distance. Since mortaring unlocks the bolt, there isn't a problem with the bolt rotation once the carrier is moving backward.

more info. bolt and carrier are different brands. bolt is new nea, carrier is an old one I had(can't remember brand). Everything is assembled correctly to the best of my knowledge. I've tried 2 charging handles, one is actually a raptor knock off the other is a standard daniel defense charging handle from another rifle I have.
This is the first barrel I have installed. Barrel is also nea. Thought it was idiot proof. insert barrel, tighten nut to 30-80ft/lbs and done. am I wrong?
I have not tried a different bcg yet, I will do that next and update thread.

If you have another BCG which I assume you do as you said you already have ARs, then swap them between rifles and see what happens. If the same BCG assembly screws up in 2 rifles, you'll know something is not kosher with your NEA bolt. If not, the problem is elsewhere. Also switch the Raptor knockoff between guns too just to be consistent in your experiment.

Try another bolt and see. Worst case, remove the barrel and see if you can feed the bolt into the extension without issue. There's probably burrs in the barrel extension causing the hangup. I'd probably want to run a go/no-go gauges in that rig.

Thanks for all who offered help. This turned out to be a charging handle issue. Put an old norc charging handle in and it was flawless.
I feel like quite the sucker now. I bought 2 of those raptor knock off charging handles from a fellow cgner at $50 a piece. Let this be a warning to anybody else thinking they are getting a good deal on what looks to be a good charging handle..
