T97 how do they hold so far?

My favorite guns. I have two.

Probably 3000 rounds through one, 1500 or so the other.
No noticeable wear anywhere.
Nice trigger pull with the LHG.

I have managed to get two lucky moa groups with 75 grain match ammo.

Tulammo which runs amazing probably around 2" average at 100 yards

Couple mags are tight but work fine, one mag was loose and caused issues.

Never had feeding issues with mags supplied but lar15 mags had problems. This was an easy fix. Top front and back bottom need to be spaced with thin epoxy or JB to tilt mag. Not issues after fix. This is a 60 yard shooter and looses it fun the further back you move.

What ammo are you using for this statement?

how exactly did you fix it ? do you have a photo ? thx

Update on that new T-97 FTU that was sent back to North Sylva for feeding and full auto burst problems. My customer picked it up from the retailer and took it to the range. Multiple burst problem had been corrected but misfeeding was worst than before. Rifle could no longer fire without a jam after every shot. That's right, every shot resulted in the next round being misfed . Changing the original mag didn't help any. He took it back to the store and the fine folks at LaTulippe Sports in Qc. city credited him with the full retail price to use towards the firearm of his choice. He added more cash and picked up a Tavor, he hasn't had any problems since. I know some shooters on this forum love their T-97's but I haven't personnally met any of who've had a positive experience with these rifles.

Shot two of them that came into the shop for repairs. Both had the usual feeding issue where the round misses the chamber, the bullet gets pushed into the case and powder gets spilled into the mechanism. One had the occasional multiple burst with a squeeze of the trigger and the other, an out of the box T-97 FTU model exhibited very frequent multiple shot bursts. The firing of a typical five round mag would yield anything from a two to five round burst, singles, misfeeds, jams or empty chambers. This one was sent back to North Sylva and I havent heard back from the customer yet. Accuracy was so-so.

Meh if I have 2 that work great, I have no reason to expect otherwise

I really like the look of this rifle with the FTU and LHG and hical mag release but after reading peoples problems I have been scared away from buying one of these, have you done anything special to get reliability out of yours or just got a gem from the factory?

I have shot 3 crates of Norinco Surplus through mine (~ 4800 rounds). A few niggles for the first 100 odd, but since then it's been running like a top.

Like others have said, a few limitations to be aware of,
- Magazine release is difficult to manipulate, but it can be mastered with practice
- Safety location is just plain awful, but again, with practice, it's not too bad to use
- Optic mounting solutions on the base rifle not very user friendly
- Tight non-PMag magwell. Mine now drops GI mags freely whereas when new, the GI mag would be a tight fit and not drop free.

On the other hand, a few positives, that are not often mentioned,
+ dense and solidly built - military grade toughness with no squiggles, rattles or flex
+ SUBLIME action - it cycles like two pieces of glass rubbing together
+ the internals are VERY well finished and at par with most mid tier commercial rifles
+ very well designed and just a breeze to field strip and clean
+ outstanding trigger (not just for a bulpup - but compared to most service rifles)
+ comfortable to carry on a sling
+ easy to modulate and shoot offhand for extended periods
+ Has a recoil counterbalance that makes the recoil very mild and target re-acqusition very quick

And a few neutrals,
+- Service Rifle accuracy of ~2MOA out of the box with the supplied iron sights. I suspect the sights are the limitation.
+- Upper and Lower Handguard upgrades available that increase the utility - but I am not sold on the price as it substantially adds to the cost (to the tune of almost 100% of original purchase price) which erodes the value proposition. Rifle does not look and feel either homogenous or balanced.

In short, it is a tremendous rifle with a value proposition that is off the charts. Be aware though, that it does have limitations and a potential for a few niggles starting off (that are easily remedied) but overall, once broken in, you're getting a solid military grade rifle that will last a lifetime and put up with a LOT of rough handling (if so inclined).

Thanks that was extremely informative, I am curious did you polish the feed ramp or shim your mags or magwell for reliability?

You're welcome. Did not polish the feed ramps or work on the magwell or the mags as was not aware, at the time, that these could be done right off the bat. Just ran the rifle as is and let the parts settle by themselves with natural wear.

I have feeding issues, where the round get jammed as it's get stripped from the mag and the bullet jams back into the case. Anyone have a fix for this?

The one I picked up did the exact same thing. It was also very picky on mags.
I was debating filing and polishing the feed ramp angle down ever so slightly to allow more space for the projectile to clear the bottom of the feed ramp but because of the location and the integration into the receiver/complete lack of any spare parts for the gun and its price tag, I decided against it in case I f**ked it up more.
I sold it very shortly after that.
I can put up with "not that accurate" but I don't keep unreliable guns in my small safe.

I must have got lucky. Several thousand rounds and not one issue. I have the FTU and use LAR mags in it usually. Usual complaints the safety and mag release weren't well thought out.

So I just got my T97 today. Just a simple question when I rack the bolt and let it go home there is a high pitch *ping* the muzzle break makes. Is that normal?

Two gems apparently

13xx and 14xx serial numbers.

Not sure why I got lucky lol.

Edit: to the above comment: my black one is 8.4 pounds with FTU/LHG and red dot.

I bed the scoped one is like 10 pounds

The LAR mags are the only ones I trust in mine (Good thing as that pretty much the only mag I buy) , but to be fair, the rivet on P-mags dont fit so well in my DD either so go figure.

I can safely say, after having it for a while, installing the FTU, and putting tons of rounds through it, mine is pretty inaccurate, all over a 12x12 peice of papaer at 50 yards, thats with an eotech, but still, same eotech does 1/2 inch groups on the AR, and I searched about this problem recently and havnt found anything about an accuracy problem with them, quite the opposite actually. Since the FTU is mounted pretty solidly to the sight posts that are part of the barrel, I dont think its that, but the shots are all over and crawl upwards.

If it were accurate, I would love it, I have had about 10 rounds do the jam thing in about 2000-3000 rounds, I can tell its just the feed ramp, there are posts on how to fix it.

The mags I'm using aren't riveted ... they're crimped. I can't stand the rivets eating out my magwells on pistols or rifles, drives me batty how crapy most are done.

I got mine the same time I picked up my Tavor. Never fired one round! Put a ftu on it and just could not wrap my head around this rifle. Love my Tavor but bye bye to the t97. My bud has it and he likes it well enough. I don't mine some norinco' as I have a few, just did not like this bull pup. If you like it, great! Just was not for me. I had one of my m78's out and my bud came out for a shoot with the t97, I put a mag threw it and it worked fine. He has never had a problem with it
