Just got a raging bull in 454 casull and it seems it doesnt like my reloads. It wont consistently fire them.

Load is 9.0gr of trailboss with 250gr cast bullets wich is listed as max. I started with cci BR4 with about 1/3 firing. Tried some old winchester small pistol wsp and fired about 2/3. Then bought some cci magnum small rifle primer thinking that would solve everything but that was the worst of all. Primers seated flush.

Mainspring seems strong and is not adjustable. Looks like its hitting ok, except the br4 must have a thicker cup because the dent is less pronounced on those.

I dont think it's really been shot much and it fired factory hornadys well except for right when i got it the side screws were loose. After tightening them they were 100%.

Anyone know where you can get new springs for a taurus? Maybe a new firing pin?

When you say the primers are seated flush, that makes me think it might be the issue. Make sure the primers are very firmly seated to the bottom of the primer pocket. Normally this will make them below flush.

Has the trigger been played with? Either way, try it with Federal primers - they're the softest available. Seat below flush, if they're even a tiny bit off the bottom of the pocket, the hammer will lose energy seating them on the strike and they won't go off.

Bingo. If you can adjust the primer seating depth, keep on pushing until you know you've hit bottom.

and don't use rifle primers to try to solve a problem. But yes, Canuck is there for the win, the primers need to be bottomed out or they just slide forward in the pocket and don't detonate.

Tried seating the primers deeper but they seemed to be bottomed out. Tried them at the range after giving them a good push on the primers. No difference really. I'll try to find some federal primers. I wonder if 45lc brass with large pistol primers would be less troublesome.

As mentioned by others, try Federal primers. This has solved ignition problems with a number of my pistols where I was getting light primer strikes.

Ok tried 5 federal 205 primers, 4/5 fired. Better but not perfect. Another fellow at the range noticed the hammer was a bit rough as it was being pulled back. Found a few burrs around the hammer. Filed them off fine grit sanded this and that, greased a few things, oiled a few things. Hoping that that's the problem. Don't really want something unreliable. I know you now.

P.S. have a real good look at the firing pin for clearance

Seems the spring for the firing pin was stretched a bit and made the firing pin move a little rough. Made a spring but it didn't seem to help.Ordered a complete spring kit and firing pin. Was told it could take months to get here if its not in stock. Im hoping that fixes it.

Here is another possibility; and easy to fix.

maybe the shoulder of the lead bullet is a bit too far forward and is engaging the shoulder inside the chamber. This will keep the rim slightly off the cylinder and will cushion the hammer blow.

Try seating the bullets ten thou deeper.

454 Casul calls for small rifle primers. I have the same revolver, never had an issue with small rifle primers not going off. I suspect his primers are not seated deep enough or somebody messed with the hammer spring to lighten the trigger pull, leaving it too light a strike the firing pin firmly.
