I have been after a 300H&H for a while, was looking very hard at getting a cooper or Dakota built, with the $$$$ being so low, now might not be such a great time to do so,
I am now looking at a barrel swap, and have two unused rifles aviable, a older Remington blind mag mountain rifle in .270 Winchester, and my preferred rifle, if it will work, a Model 70 featherweight pushfeed in 7x57, do either Remington or Winchester use a long action, or have a magnum action, for the H&H case or can these be modified to work, the M70 seams to have a steel block in the back of the mag,
If not, I have to look harder, for a used 300H&H or buy a 375 for a build.
Thanks

I would be cheaper to trade your rem 700 for a magnum action I 300 ,7mm 338 etc. the mag is long enough without any mods. its a straight rebarrel and maybe true the action

Cheap & easy = M700
Classic = pre 64 Model 70

I would personally look for an older blued 700 BDL LA and get a SS bbl installed. Stock options are endless but would try to keep weight down to +/- 8# scoped.

Google Martini & Hagn... The fellow to talk to and Canadian. Heck Heym talked to him when they wanted to design a new rifle. A well respected member here is having an Argentine action crafted into a .300 H&H by Ralf right now as a matter of fact. His work is several notches above just about anything else, and you pay for it.

It is very difficult to change the 700 up from the standard .473 bolt face to the .532 magnum, so going from 270 to 300 H&H will require a new bolt or open up the bolt face and change it over to a Sako extractor. Which has it's own set of consequences and dangers. The pushfeed mod 70 should be fairly easy if I remember them, I haven't worked on one in years..............

I can't seem to find anything on this. Can anyone direct me?

I checked, its there, in two models of x-bolt, I did a cal search on their web sight, when I first read that post.
Not normally a browning rifle fan, but I am now considering one,
Wish Winchester, would pull there head out of there ass, and put it back as an option, for the M70 sporter, or super grade,

The model 70 is relatively easy but there are certainly some modifications required. The 700 is slightly more difficult and it makes more sense to start with a magnum bolt. A new model70 would be a good choice.
