Best stuff to use for cleaning OUTSIDE of a stainless steel revolver?

I use hobbes9 for the inside with a brush and patches, what is the best for cleaning the grime off the outside of it? Oil and patches?

Use a cleaner - oil isn't one. Something like G96 for the outside. For the cylinder face, use a lead remover cloth, they work pretty well and last years if you keep them in the bag they come with.

I use autosol after cleaning with solvent. Polishes it up real purty...cleans a cylinder face real fast also.

It requires a little elbow-grease, but yes, it does.

After an old fart at the range told me to do this and I wrapped my head around the idea, it's pretty much the only thing I use to get the carbon off.

G96 is my go to CLP for everything, including cleaning the outside of my 686.
