Hi guys,

I had a question about shooting around Kingston, Ontario. Because I am not native to this area, I have no idea where I would go shooting around here. I noticed there are a few shooting clubs out here (memberships are maxed out) but I think I could use their ranges regardless for a fee? (I'm not sure). Is there any crown land around Kingston that is suitable for shooting?

Thanks.

FRPC is in Kingston at Mcadoo's Lane. You have to be a member or guest of a member to shoot there though and as you mentioned, the waiting list is currently full.

BDFGC, in Brockville, is accepting members but the range is about 45 min away from Kingston.

Do you know if the Brockville range allows non-members to use their range? I didn't realize how difficult it would be to go shooting around here lol

Thanks.

I can't imagine. Non-member shooting is almost always under escort of a member (as a guest). Unless there is a fulltime staff onsite (like Stittsville, a commercial range operator), there would be no way to collect daily fees from shooters, and without that, shooters would shoot for free, and there'd be nobody signing up as a member.

There's also the issue of insurance - many range insurances require payment per guest.

SFRC should get into the range business! That would help the area.

I couldn't agree more.
I am from Vancouver, and the city had many shooting ranges/ near by crown land to go shooting at. I figured that going to a smaller city in Ontario would make shooting even easier, but I suppose Kingston is a special case... I would love to go shooting but I just can't find anywhere to do so.

Google "ontario shooting ranges", then go to the map that shows up, zoom in a bit.

It's really sad how rare the ranges are in eastern Ontario.

A guy I worked with commuted daily from Brockville to Kingston. Tedious, yes, but for an occasional outing? Easy-peasy. I just mailed my app to Brockville; the range is half hour or so from my place. They insist on a pistol-safety course (done by the club) before one can pew-pew-pew there.
PS: the title of this thread....cough-cough.

I go a few minutes past Brockville to the Grenville Fish and Game - just an hour from my door, so not too bad. When I was googling clubs, somehow the Brockville one never came up, so I missed out on that.

Agree this could use a little word-smithing!

If you have a spare million, I'll open one ;)

The range at Brockville will allow you to shoot on Sunday's "if" one of the regular members is there to do the range duties - used to charge 10 bucks or something for the day.

They also offer a discount (for a membership) if you are more than so many kilometers away (based on your actual address). I have considered joining but have never quite got around to it.

I live about 15 kms north of Kingston and while the "almost an hour" drive wouldn't be bad in the nice weather, I (think) that I would get tired of even making the drive there to shoot (plus the 2 hours worth of gas each outing).

When I first moved out this way seven years back there was a "waiting list" for the Kingston club - a couple years ago they stopped even taking names for the waiting list so I have pretty much written that off as somewhere that I will ever shoot at in my lifetime.

There is almost no crown land south of Highway 7 and it's next to impossible to find private land to hunt or shoot on unless you are related to someone who owns it.

I like living in the Kingston area but the hunting/shooting opportunities are just not within a half hour drive.

The best thing to do if you are interested in joining the Brockville club, is to use the contact us form on our website, which sends an email to the executive, or send me a PM.

All ranges in Ontario require safety courses, for legal reasons. It's the CFO's requirement that they make a legal declaration that you're safe to shoot. They can't do that without some backup and the safety course puts everybody on the same footing.
