Gun for IPSC classic division

Have a big wallet or rich wife? Shoot major and practice.
Have a watchful wife or skinny wallet? Shoot minor and practice.

Without practice you will never win. With a 600$ norinco and enough training you'll win championships. You only need an accuracte and reliable platform and anything can be made into that with the right knowledge. The rest is vanity.

For 2k and under, find a reputable gunsmith and have them work over a new trojan for you in the caliber you are willing to afford.

Rules. Clasic division has to hve the same appeearance as the original 1911.
You need to check out the latest rule book - (2015) - Appendix D3 Line 16.

Handguns must be based on and visibly resemble the profile and contours of the classic 1911-genre design. This means a single-stack, one piece metal frame, slide with stirrup cuts, and a dust cover (with or without an accessory rail)

that is my point, those on the top 3 or maybe 5 can shoot any gun and still end up on top . its the Man Behind The Gun for the professionals.l

Fixed it for you.

Thanks for all the replys, they've been helpful. Looks like Trojan is the way to go. I had never considered shooting minor in classic till now, staying with 9mm would be convenient. Not sure what I'll do.

I know I need practice, I don't know what's a reliable 1911 and I don't have the knowledge to turn anything into one. I do know I don't want to start with a norinco, call it vanity if you must.

Hell! A gunsmith and 500$ will make it good and any reputable 1911 will be an easy search.
Colt and springfield have been doing it the longest if that means anything.
Anything but a colt is just a copy...
Call it what you will, but a SAM and 500$ Smith job will live just as long as a colt with proper maintence.
Buy exactly what you want, or buy cheap and build what you want.
These platforms are the honda civic's of the gunworld.

I've been shooting a pretty much out of the box Trojan 9mm for the last couple of months. Bought some Tripp mags and an add on Techwell Magwell and that's it. Haven't had a malfunction yet and I'm doing well enough with it. As soon as I can get some practice time when the range thaws out I'll see what it can really do. But you can't go wrong with this set up. The Trojan has almost everything on it you need and especially the important bits.

What about the new DVC Classic

While the DVC is very nice, and I'm pretty jealous that Sean is getting one, you can be completely competitive with a tuned up Trojan or Springfield RO or the new Colt Competition (though I think the Trojan and RO are better set up with the Bomar style sights) so before dropping your kids inheritance on a new DVC consider the more affordable options.
