Have some cash burning a hole in my pocket...
Recently I have been selling off unused guns to downsize my collection, want to be down to 4, that will do everything I need to do. 1 shotgun 1 .22 1 hunting rifle and 1 non restricted fun gun. So far I have the shotgun (m2 left hand 12g) taken care of and the .22(cooey 60) this leaves the hunting rifle and fun gun. I am a right handed left eye dominant shooter so I shoot either side but prefer left.
Right now I am torn between the xcr-l keymod and a left hand sako 85 hunter in .270 or .308
What scares me about putting out the cash for a xcr is the possibility of being reclassed and not being able to take it anywhere. Would like to hunt coyotes and deer. Out of those two which one would you pick? Can only buy one for now.

Get the XCR have some fun with it. I want a Sako long Range in 30 min mag or 338 Lap.
Oh look at the swiss arms rifle I used one at Xmas and it was like a laser and function without a flaw.. good resale value too.

OP, not that I'm a big fan of them, but you can get an SKS and a custom stock for around $300. (a good enough fun gun) and you'd be helping out "the cause" at the same time, and be well on your way to saving up for the Sako hunting rifle. I'll post a pic of mine, as soon as I can figure out how to do that! Finally drilled out the pin and got the custom stock on it and fired in off the deck the other day! Yep, it's a fun gun alright! Man, those ejects fly pretty far, even got a small paint chip in my cherry Taurus hood!:(

Of the two options you present get the Sako in .308 for your hunting.

To me, "Fun = Accurate"... not "Rapid Fire."

I would recommend a second bolt action or semi (if you just gotta) in .223. This one can double up on range and coyote duties and is as cheap to shoot as any centerfire.

Then ditch the Cooey for a CZ 452 American or Lux or better yet an FS.

Every range should have a poster made up with this and posted there.

...........Youbetchaaaaaah..........

No doubt. I see a lot of guys dressed like they are straight out of call of duty with an ar15 burning through 500 rounds as fast as they can pull the trigger and not hit anything but the supports for the target and the berms.

Sako for sure, accurate and smooth. XCR accuracy is hit and miss at best and they just never felt very good to me. Nothing like a walk in the woods with an accurate bolt rifle in your hands and the knowledge that any legal game animal is yours for the taking with one shot.

If you have cash on hand, and haven't tried one get yourself a lightweight or compact bolt...... My recent purchase rally opened my eyes..... They are so fun to carry.....

I cashed in my Compacts in favour of the Ultralight's... close to being as "handy" with a "big boy" stock and 3.5" more barrel. Just picked up a Compact in 7.62X39 and will drop it into an Ultralight stock... Found two of the Ultralight stocks (1 -SA & 1 - LA) on Gun Broker being sold by Western Gun Parts... they forced me to go through the Gun Broker auction to buy them, so I am getting hosed pretty good on the exchange rate and taxes... but the 7.62X39 is going in the SA and a 7X57 is getting bobbed to 20" and going in the LA.

The one compact I have is in .243......... I really like it.... But it is a dedicated to game rifle, for Timberwolves....... My "personal" timber wolf hunt sees me riding in a drug sled behind a snowmobile, snowshoeing for miles, watching a cut line, participating in a drive etc......

It works for me..... And if I felt like bringing it out for whitetail from a stand or for yotes, there it is....

Everyone's mileage varies.....

But I am working with Clay...... I love nice wood for sure.....

Called P&D today, have a left hand sako 85 hunter in .270 with extra mag coming, they sure don't give the mags away. Was never a big fan of black rifles anyway but wanted to own one at some point in my life. Thanks to all for steering me in the right direction! Now to find a scope and rings that will work....another challenge
