Norc 1911 45 Super

Ya from what I've read a 30 is recommended for supper. I've ordered a couple wolfes in 20 and 22. Good for +p

Converted my Norc to .400 Cor-Bon, very stiff load. Works nice, doesn't seem to beat-up the frame nor slide too bad.

Using a Wolff 30 pounds spring.

Run my Norc 1911 with 45-08. Broke a barrel bushing on the pistol shortly after I received it but after the seller sent me a new bushing it's been fine. Needs to be run with a buffer for sure and replaced every so often. I've found if I run it with 45-08 without the buffer the guide plate gets mangled and needs some love to get it smoothed out and operational again. Have put about 100 loads of 45-08 through the gun, mainly 230gn cast bullets over 9gn of longshot and no signs of real wear. Shoot mostly 45ACP in the gun with the lighter recoil spring and save the 45-08 for the bush. 45super should be no problem for these guns.

Get and fit a flat bottom firing pin stop. They work well to slow the slide down, and help to keep it locked up fractionally longer. I shoot 45 super in a couple of norcs. I use a 25lb spring. I found in my first norc that the 30lb spring was causing the barrel to be peened against the breech/slide. Poor fit I guess. Anyway, a spring that heavy isn't needed with the flat firing pin stop.

Also, i've found that a buffer causes the slide to not fully open (jams etc) with the full length guide rod norcs. I don't have a solution to that and will probably replace it with a regular guide rod.

I bought my springs directly from wolff.

The heavy spring came with the pistol and already installed. Had never handled a 1911 model before so when I went to rack the slide and it wouldn't budge I thought I was doing something wrong. Turns out the recoil spring was just heavy as hell and I just had to man up and pull back on that slide like an sob. Think it's a 22lb spring and when running it extra strong mag springs are required. There's more to the 45-08 cartridge than just cutting rifle brass to the length of 45acp. Reaming out the id to appropriate depth above the webbing to accept 45cal bullets is also required . If you have the brass, the tools and the knowledge to use those tools you should be able to whip up your own cases.

Already made some reamed out 45's. But I've only been able to test standard loads in my Beretta.
Norc and springs should be in next week.
Thanks again guys.

Shooting 45 super the first time is fun. You really don't expect how much extra power/blast there is. Mind you, I was using power pistol so that didn't help lol.

I'd say tread lightly with the load development. Not really much data out there(nothing from the powder manufacturers) and the guys who developed the 45-08 settled on longshot as their go to. Longshot is a wicked powder for these suped up 45 loads I also love it in 40. Was at the range last weekend with my buddy and he told me everyone stopped and looked over at my bench when I started to let some go with the 40 loaded with 180gn Ares tc bullets over 7gn of longshot. Puts a smile on my face for sure but may be a touch flinch inducing, at least to a newer shooter.

I use a 22 lb spring with 45-08 and might/could/should go to a 24 lb. 30 lbs is far more than needed IMO, especially for 45 Super, which is "powder puff" compared to 45-08. A 30 lb spring would be too much to cycle the action for all but the stiffest loads (if at all with 45 Super) and would place a lot of unnecessary stress on the gun. I bought the springs direct from Wolff - I suggest you buy one of their extra weight "packs" so that you can experiment.

Concerning the 45-08, making brass and loads, search on "45-08" and you'll find some good info here on CGN.

I'm hopping on this bandwagon with my Norc as well and was planning on starting with downloaded 460 Rowland data from RealGuns. If it doesn't blow up a (albeit compensated) Kimber, it should be ok for 45-08 loads if you keep case volume in mind and work up slowly. If you put 460 Rowland into the search bar the article with all the commentary will pop up.

I use the 22# spring in my Norc with my 45-08 cartridge. 10,5gr Of Longshot gave me 1300fps using my cast 200gr LSWC bullets. Gun runs fine. I donpt shoot the cartridge often. Used the load Gunnar recommended. Seems to be enough for most things that require that kind of power.

Wonder what the effects of the 200gn bullet would have on a bears skull versus a 230gn bullet. Lighter/faster vs heavier/slower. Of course I could do some testing this spring but I'd rather not and save the pistol for it's real intended purpose, to get me out of a possible sticky situation.
