Grizzly vs Black Bear Taste

I'd still take the well harvested tenderloins and ham roasts. Middle of salmon season or not. You offered it.
 
Where is WhyNot? - he is the guy to talk about eating grizzly. He told me a root and berry bear is mighty fine eating. He even makes bear bacon.

There was a well known local GB in the Yukon Territory that was shot from the side of the HWY.
I do not recall the exact distance, but the regs did allow it if one was a certain distance from the center line of the HWY.
Anyways, it was a well known Bear among the locals and someone had heard about an easy GB and it was taken legally , but when the locals heard about it.
The Poop hit the fan so to speak.
I'm just pullin some info from the grey matter between the ears this morning.
Distances from Center Line of HWY and Towns may have changed do to this instance I am referring to and not sure if thats the one you are referring to Rob Nich.

Both bears have a change in diet through out the year, although the grizzlies will also eat the black bears. We can't hunt grizzlies in Alberta even though we have them on the property, often in our driveway.
 
The upcoming spring bear hunt will be my first, I cant wait! I'll post pics if all goes well. A customer has offered to take me on a hunt so i cant wait!! I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve. :)

I was thinking the same thing. I know that he butchered and ate that big toad he shot a few years back and gave meat to several people. Apparently there were no complaints. Of course, Marg can cook a little. ;)

You can shoot a griz every 3 years. I have them in my yard weekly and daily in the spring and fall. Family unit of Mom and 2 full grown cubs. She is good about not causing trouble. I'm a little worried about the upcoming summer when she cuts the cubs loose though. They have no fear of people and will be hungry. As well we have a monster boar passes through in the spring and fall. He is something else. All scarred up. Stands in the middle of the road and stares down cars. But he just cruises through and is still good and wild.

The griz shot in the ditch that caused an uproar was a bunch of nonsense. It was legally taken and was a Ditch Bear that was accustomed to humans and tourists so some people got their poop in a not when a big bad hunter cracked it. These same people don't have to deal with bears that have lost their fear of people. Shooting ditch grizzlies is not my thing but I sure wont condemn someone for doing it. I like to hunt them backcountry with a bow. That said I do harvest spring ditch black bears for meat as we are not allowed bait or hounds for black bears and can harvest 2 per year. To me a fed bear should be a dead bear. I got 2 little kids, a dog team, chickens, rabbits and pigs so while I have a get along and we will get along policy with the resident family one bit of nonsense and it will be bad for them.

Grizzlies will eat blacks, and they will also eat other. At least some of them do. We sometimes use black bear carcasses to bait the next one. Some bears chow down, some avoid it and some will pull it out of the barrel piece by piece to get at whatever is under it. Skinned carcasses left on the ground are usually just gone without a trace overnight, if they are going to hit them at all. I guess there's no accounting for taste.

Feeling more like a challenge and less like a favour as we go. :) I'll PM you my number and we'll chat and make friends, as favours are for friends. As for well harvested, it is a promise it'll will be thoroughly and double checked dead. That's a personal policy before I cut anything off an animal, client's option of which bits are available for flavour sampling, likely all of it but it's their bear.
