375 on sale at Cabela's

500 yard shots max. I don't mind a 15power or even 20 power. 10x will get the job done as well. A friend of mine has family in the Yukon so we'll be going up there. 1x would make me feel better in case of a charging bear.

And yes! The sights don't look amazing, haven't shot them yet. Better than a stock marlin lever's though. But it is awesome that they are there.

What is integral recoil?

Integral recoil lug, I didn't go look at the page again but suspect "lug" was trimmed off the end of the description. Model 70's have an integrally machined recoil lug, in contrast to the sandwiched / separate lug used on a Remington 700 for instance. It's just more expensive to make receivers that way and Winchester is proud of it, in performance terms it's a non-issue. I personally appreciate the touch.

Tikka's are quite different. There's just a notch cut out on the action and the 'lug' is nested in the stock and lines up with the notch in the action. I don't know how they work,, but they do as there are some accurate tikkas out there. I tried for a pic but chrome wouldn't let me copy.

The savage axis does the same sort of thing

I have been looking for a rifle in .375 H&H for a while and but have missed out on a couple.

Well I noticed the Winchester M70 Alaskan in .375 H&H was 300 bucks off today and could not hold back.

Hopefully here soon.......can't wait to get some loads worked up.

I was in the Cabela's Edmonton North store today and they had the M70 Alaskan in stock in 30.06 and .375 H&H- both with open sites.

The one I ordered had not come in yet so I ended up taking home the .375 from the store.

Now I can work up some loads and try it out.

I don't mean to hijack this tread but more to inform myself, what would be the difference between this m70 and a zastava m70 (m98) I just got from tradex, minus the mine is better cause it cost more?

Fit and finish, the stock, 3 position safety
I will say fit and finish on my zastava is impeccable, your right on the safety, the zastava is a 2 way, cycle/cycle but no fire. My zastava shurly has more up and down play with the bolt in full rearward extantion and the travel must be less smooth, but I never handle the other gun in to compare.

All the zastava's I have handled were not very smooth. Stock looked like it was finished with goop (sticky and not very well done), didn't feel as tight as my m70's, bolt lift was harder as well. They are well built guns though. I would take one of those over most of the garbage I see in stores these days. I had a few zastava 22lr's and they were super accurate and very well made

Stock in mine is really nice I got it 200$ of at tradex (due to a previous purchase and return with problems , long story) but it was hard to pass up for 649$! I did a wrigh up with plenty of pictures on the tradex forum.

End of hijack.
P.s. please post pics wen yoy receive your rifle! Can't wait to see!

Got out to the range yesterday

Using IMR4350, Fed 215 primers and Speer 270 grain BTSP bullets I worked up from 75 to 80 grains of powder with no signs of pressure.

Using my shooting chrony they were just over 2700 fps with 80 grains of powder.

Speers #14 manual lists that load as max and 2655 fps so your close for sure ! That will KILL any game you come across ! RJ

Which scope did you end up going with? I just put a VX3 2.5-8 on my stainless/laminate Ruger Hawkeye (375 Ruger) and am looking forward to trying it out again. It was a shooter with the irons at 50 yards.

I used warne QD rings because I like the irons for close work/emergency. Just curious to follow your build as well. Sounds like things are going well so far.

No scope yet... I was just using the irons.

After my research I am leaning toward a 2.5-8 x36 as well
