On m14.ca they show a m305 with the black feather chassis and a red dot and it weights 8 lbs 2 oz. Do you guys think its possible to bring it below 8 lbs empty, within reason?

Sure.
The muzzle device & butt stock cam be lighter.
You could also skeletonize the Blackfeather chassis a bit.

This is super light.

Yes I believe you can.....

USGI fibreglass stock, fill in the butt plate area with something "lighter", ie: a bit of high density foam, a bit of Devon and a Garand butt plate. Remove the internal storage compartment.

Cut the barrel down to 18.5"

I would hazard a guess that an empty rifle and no mag would be right around 7#9oz.

But once ya add a mag and shells, add a scope rail and an optic..... 10# is a bit optimistic.....

AG composites carbon stock. 18" barrel. Aluminum muzzle brake. Sage stripper clip rail and a burris fast fire or similar.
Should be pretty damn light.
