The greatest .22 that ever was

You had better be getting in underthegun's thread My 22 shoots 1/2" groups all day. Didn't see any Mossbergs in the did it list yet. The old 46 model I had was equal to my other 22's but not as good as an older 60 cooey we had.

I haven't had a range membership in a few years but if I get one again I'll give it a shot. But I don't enjoy shooting for groups much anymore honestly. I much prefer plinking. Chasing the small one hole groups got pretty boring to me after a while, but there was a time I was obsessed with it.

And if you had a Cooey model 60 that outshot your mossey, there was something not right with the mossey or you just had a rare bad shooter. I had a fairly extensive Cooey collection and none of them came anywhere close to what the 146-B can shoot.

Yikes! That is really nice but it's a little overpriced if you ask me. Having done a ton of refinishing I'll say you don't really get man hours back in the sale price. Doesn't work like that. These rifles in great condition can be found for $250-300. In near mint original condition they're $300-$350. Mine was equally as nice, with a great scope, original detachable swivels, not refinished, all 3 original sights, hang tags and paperwork for $350 all in.

Having said that... There is no way in hell i'd sell mine for that now! I wouldn't even take $550 for it lol.

That is correct! One sold within a couple of hours on the EE this morning. $150 without sights

Another one that has been restored, only needs MikeySs trigger guard magic:

It's a mossberg 146-B T-bolt, it's complete and all original, and it's mine.

That's a beautiful rifle. I understand your feelings, I have a 140K that my dad bought in 1949 and is the gun I learned to shoot on as a child and a 151M that is my favorite semi-auto rimfire rifle. The old Mossbergs are great guns that are very unappreciated by newer shooters.

Source a replacement firing pin NOW! That seems to be what wears out on these beautiful old rifles and I have already cleaned out my LGS stock helping guys out. First rifle I bought was a 46B(b) [ 1962 - $15.00 ] and the last one was a 144LSB [ 2014 - $150 - nobody else at the auction knew what it was ].

mikeystew…nice job on the trigger/guard! I had a 44US(B) a few years ago. The only thing I did not like about it was the plastic guard.
Love your 146-B T-bolt. Even more 'cause it's tube feed. If a deal becomes avail like yours I'd be all over it too! Enjoy….

Fantastic work on the trigger guard. Last year I picked up a later-model 146B-A, and the only thing about it that makes me slightly queasy is the plastic trigger guard on it. But it's a great shooter, and has a real, full-sized heft to it. You did well to get one with the detachable sling swivels; they're hard to find.

I took a pair of my Mossbergs out today and had some indoor range fun, 46B and 46M-B, basically the same except the M-B has the full Mannlicher stock. First time shooting both of these for me, and they both worked great! But I think I may sell the 46B as I feel like I'm keeping somebody else from appreciating theses fine vintage rifles. Had lots of questions and comments at the indoor range, the young guys had never seen these before! Fun times.

What distance, and what ammo?

25M, indoor range, Federal Automatch Target, 40 grain 1200fps. , standing offhand. I was sighting in both guns and hadn't shot either one before. Started off pretty close and didn't take much to get good groupings. Also did a 14 shot run on a benchrest with the 46MB before finisihng up for the day. I think I have it sighted in pretty good now for the 25m range.

Do you have Parkinson's? Cataracts maybe?

Groupings, LOL. My old Mosin M38 shot tighter than that at 50m with surplus ammo.

Cataracts, maybe. LOL. As I said I was sighting them in for the first time shooting, and didn't have many spare targets, all the sighting in shots are on the same paper. I suppose I could have marked the order of shots. Does look more look a blunderbuss though.. isn't Deadpool a Clint Eastwood movie from a few decages ago?

Those are nice looking guns, should be able to tighten those groups up significantly. Are the action screws tight?

Nothing a bit of practice won't cure :) Mechanically, they both are fine. Sighting in procedure involved blasting off a few rounds, retrieving the target, resetting the sights, blast off a few more, retrieve the target, curse because I had turned the sights the wrong way, etc, etc. My vision is best from 1-10 yards- less than that, I should have glasses, beyond that I should also have glasses. You young guys can laugh, but when you hit your fifth decade you'll understand. LOL.

Changed mine up a little bit last night.
I swapped the flat back for a 151 courtesy of Scott.
I think these two look real nice together, next up will be a tube fed bolt (I was trying to convince Scott to sell me one of his before I left with the 151 haha)
