Lubricate folding stock to prevent wear?

If you can take it off, buy some "second skin" and put it on the surfaces. Or just don't open and close it as much.

Depends if the pivot point is closed or open to the elements. I'd just rub the pivot pin and any contact surfaces with an oily rag if its open. If its closed, grease it.

A quality stock will not wear out. My Whiskey 3 folder has extremely nice quality folding and locking hinges. No issues here.

I have seen the Ruger PRS and questioned the quality of the rear half of the rifle. I have not seen one in the flesh though. My guess Ruger related question?

Of the many reviews on this rifle, this appears to be a common issue. Someone mentioned just don't open or close it as much, if you have to do that to prevent it from loosening up, it defeats the purpose of a folding stock. If its prone to loosening up with use, oil or grease isn't going to fix it.

Cost cutting on Ruger's part.

Pay to play. Try to avoid it's use I guess? Lubricating can be two fold. Once grit gets in there, it can actually make things worse. A dry-lube would be something I'd consider if I were to lube it. Silicone spray, maybe graphite?

At the end of the day, I'd just try not to use this feature.

Ah.

That's too bad, but still not required to do that too often.

Back to what you pay is what you get. 1500$ rifle, or $1500 stock. Those are some of the quality differences.

Thank you very much for the information!

I guess, but this rifle is a toy for me, not a tool for work, so $1500 is quite good enough to keep me happy! Now if I were a soldier or 30 year old keener competitor spending big bucks traveling to matches, entrance fees, practicing ++ rounds a week, I could see your point. That's why I quit IPSC years ago, the tariff was too great for me to stay in the game.$1500 was a bunch of money for me as it was, $1500 for just the stock is way out of my snack bracket, retired old guys don't have that kinda spare scratch, at least not me. Thanks for your input though.

Nothing wrong with that. What matters is you enjoy it.

Try some dry lubricant. Can't really hurt (watch for discolouration though)

I lubricated the side folding stock adapter on my SU-16 with gun grease, and it seems to work nicely. Just a dab'll do ya.
