Hello all,
I recently purchased a 10/22 and put it in a tapco intrafuse stock. I also put an Angled fore grip on it which I LOVE! I was curious. I am looking at a few minor upgrades such as a tuffer buffer and auto bolt release. I was wondering if anyone knows a place to buy a modified auto bolt release. i don't want to attempt it myself because i'll probably screw it up and be unable to use my 10/22 until I get a new piece. I know brownells but they aren't giving me a shipping price. anyone know a canadian company who is fair?/

Thank you!
Rob

As noted, it is a very easy thing to do with a dremel or a file and 10 minutes. Even if you screw it up I don't think you need the bolt release at all for the rifle to function, so there is no reason why you couldn't continue to use it while waiting for a part to ship.

I bought a small file set from crappy and used a flat file first then used the rounded on one side file, to get a round cut on it. Works perfect now.

I learned that by watching a YouTube video on disassembly. The Ruger is not to be scared of. I am not one to be mechanically inclined but taking the bolt release out was very easy, trickiest part was reassembly and trying to get the pins to stay in while putting the others in!

Don't forget when removing the receiver from the stock to move the safety half way between safe and hot so it fits out of the stock. Then there is just 2 pins holding the trigger group to the receiver. Easy peasey.

For the actual process. I used a round file and just filed and filed. I got the hole straight on the top edge then kept going until it has a slight curve. It is not an even curve but it works no problem !

If any newbs like me have questions. Ask away. I'm glad I saved myself the money :)

Thanks for reading and for all the replies

I did mine a few years ago with the help of YouTube also. It's much nicer modified. What would be even cooler would be a slide lock to hold the bolt open after the last shot is fired. I'm sure someone sells some expensive mod kits.

Next up , is installing a new extracter, whether it makes a diff , I'm not sure . But it seems to be of the opinion that it does. And you get to pick your action apart some more:)
