What do you use and why?

Right now I am running a lyman vibration tumbler, and I'm tired of all the dust and build up inside the cases. Looking at getting into a SS tumbler or an ultrasonic setup. What works best? What's more cost effective?

Thanks!

A cap full of any case polisher form the majors (Dillon, RCBS, Lyman....etc..) once every few runs, or, some Nu Finish car polish (orange bottle.....available at CT) works perfect. Don't use Brasso, as it contains ammonia which will weaken the cases.

I also cut up a used dryer sheet into 6 or so and throw it in the mix. Helps clean up the cases and if your tumbler doesn't have a sealed lid, will keep the dust down.

Has anyone been using the crushed walnut media from princess auto?I bought a tumbler from CTC last week to clean my brass .So I'm thinking 50# of crushed walnut media for $35.00 is a good deal.I'm told 6# from a gun shop is $35.00. Any pros or cons?

I've been using a vibratory tumbler with the same batch of media for well over 10000 pistol rounds and at least a 1000 rifle rounds and there was little dust. I'd say at about the half-way mark some of the media started breaking down, but I tried putting a small piece of a Bounce dryer sheet in with the media and brass for a cycle and low and behold, almost all the small particles and dust where adhered to the sheet. I've only had to do that a couple times so far, haven't even used a single full dryer sheet yet! I'm using that red "tuff-nut" walnut media which seemed to last longer before breaking down compared to the corn based stuff.

With that said, I'll be getting a Frankford Arsenal SS tumbler as soon as I can get a decent deal on one. I like really clean, shiny brass.

Listen bud I've never ever had a problem with my loads in terms of accuracy. This whole peen thing is a bunch of bull sh!t. So if you think that adding more pins (5 pounds) is going to make it not peen in your eyes. Come on

From my experience, the peening is about 20% of what it was with the same amount of brass with double the amount of pins. The brass on brass contact is what makes the brass peen, the SS pins insulate the brass so there is less contact. So yes more pins = less peening.

Not in accuracy, but it saves me from having to re chamfer cases. Personal preference, I like my brass and ammo a certain way.

Ok this is not an argument. I use a three way cutter on my brass and still see the chamfer on my brass several cleanings later. My question is , if you are SS cleaning how long are you cleaning for that the chamfer is being effected. I don't have this problem that you speak of.

Just bought a 50 lb bag last week at P.A. I have the same tumbler. They work well together, and the tumbler is a sealed unit so it cuts down on dust. Even so, I use NuFinish and Bounce sheet strips.

I use the Thumbler Tumbler model B with stainless steel pins, dish soap, bit of Spray 9 & Lemme Shine.
Used to have an UltraSonic cleaner - It worked fine but I like shiny brass so I sold it.

Been using the same 50lb bag for a couple years now and I clean a lot of pistol brass.
Works great although it is dusty. A bit of car polish and used dryer sheets help with that though.
