I have a few batches of cast projectiles coming to me. One batch is 150 grain gas check from a lee mold and the other is 165 grain gas check from unknown mold. I am looking to get 1800-2000+ fps. I have In my stock h4198, varget, and lvr. Does anyone have any load data they would like to share with me? I have found a bit of published data with imr 4198 for 170 grain cast. Any help would be great thanks

I have read good things about cast in the 30-30 using Unique and 2400

with Unique you would get more bang to the pound
2400 would be faster but cost more

Unique is not good for the velocity I am looking for and unfortunately 2400 isn't available where I live. Pistol powder hasn't been around these parts for well over a year. I am trying to put some loads together with the powders that I already have. I can get Benchmark, h4895 blc(2) as well

Unique is great if you want to stretch a pound of powder ou and plink a lot. I have a great load for the 150gn cast round, no gas check, and then around 8gn of unique. I normally shoot that in the 50-75 yard range but ring my 100 yard gongs no problem. But if you want 2000 fps you'll likely need to work up some load development. I've never used varget in the 30-30 but I've done all kinds of loads for that caliber and I'll check my notes for you. I don't crony so velocity will only be assumed.

I'd be real interested in seeing what kind of data you get. I was out picking up some cast 30-30 yesterday at The Bullet Barn and Andy the owner was going to pop out some gas check 30-30s to try and get a higher fps. When I see him next I'll try to push him on what he was going to use for a load.

I'd take H4895, drop the published max load 20-30% (less than the normal 40% drop for the "60% rule" loads) and start working up with a chrony. You'll probably get wonky accuracy and/or barrel leading before pressure signs in a .30-30 with your target velocities.

Here is what I got loaded so far. All with the 150 grain gc. 20 gr, 21 gr, 21.5 gr, 22 gr with h4198 and have 29, 30, 31 grains varget. 5 rounds each loaded up. Hope the weather holds up this weekend and I will get on a bench and see what groups the best. I'll report back with my results
