I just had a quick question as i am a bit confused still on the process of buying my first handgun. When ordering from one of the dealer's above the firearms registration will arrive in the mail like it use to when the long guns needed to be registered? Someone told me when i receive it (being shipped to me) i than must phone the CFO and get a registration. Thanks for your input!

When you order from a dealer inside your province:

- supply your RPAL and personal information
- depending on your province you may be asked to show proof of range membership
- dealer will call in the 'Transfer Notification' to CFP which typically processes quickly (same or next day) if all is in order
- dealer will email 'TN' to you and ship the handgun supplying you carrier tracking information
- you receive at home or receive notice to pick up at local depot
- if at depot show Drivers License for proof of ID and take home
- at home check that make, model, serial number of handgun matches 'TN' paperwork
- you wait for 'Registration Certificate' to process and arrive via snail mail (~ 2 weeks)
- when arrives check that make, model, serial number on 'RC' matches handgun
- purchase process complete

ah perfect, thank you very much for your input and the other's aswell.
Hope they don't demand proof of range membership im waiting to join one but can bring my handgun to some of their shoot's without being a member. On a waiting list, closest open range is over an hour away sadly.

Ranges at distance are unfortunately the new norm..

Sheesh.I wish all were like this.
I bought a walther 9mm from a busniness and its been over 2 weeks now and they are still processing.
I contacted them to see what was going.Their reply was that they were waiting for transfer authorization as they receive everything via snail mail they informed me
They gave me the reference number to call in and see,CFC lady said transfer was completed into my name on the 19th.
I asked the dealer if I can email them the info but they insisted on waiting for it via Canada Post
I guess I am just being impatient
All other dealers I have purchased from have been bought, paid and shipped to my door in under 10 days

I bought my first restricted online from a retailer in British Columbia.

The shop emailed me within 48 hours with a confirmation number. When I called the CFO they told me that the Nova Scotia CFO office will not email transfer notification, only snail mail. The wait time would be 5-10 days. I joined a range a couple weeks ago and they had my proof of range membership on file.

I imagine snail mail only because this is the first restricted in my name. Hopefully NS doesn't only do snail mail. I want to do a transfer from a family member next, maybe I'll wait until this process is complete.

Sucks I'll be realistically waiting for a month to get my pistol.
