I have a friend who has one of these pistols, SN 37###. It is in pristine condition, but has some odd markings on the backstrap.
They appear to be three-digit numbers, stamped into the steel and then crossed out with a single stroke. There are seven such numbers, along with a last set without a cross-out.
We wonder what those numbers might signify. Could they be ID numbers, with successive re-issues upon the demise of the previous possessor?
Any thoughts would be most welcome.
