M14 usgi fiber glass stocks

USGI Fiberglass With hardware? I'd say $200-$225.... If the selector holes are filled. Less $60 with-out hardware....

USGI Wood with no hardware, would have to be in pretty fabulous shape, IMHO to fetch $125.

Considering you can get unfinished Boyd's stock with-out hardware for $175 to your door right now, less if your willing to wait for a sale!

I've bought three for $100 or less. But all have been messed with to some extent. The first one came off of an older Springfield and the checkering had been sanded off, it was coated with bedliner and had a crack at the forend. I paid $50 for it. The next one was also off of a Springfield but much nicer. Still had the SA crinkle-coat and a rubber butt. It was drilled for a riser but otherwise really nice for $100. I just picked up my 3rd at the post office. Bedding was prepped for epoxy, forend has already been stiffened and a small rail was added as well. I paid $100. They pop up on the EE but you have to be fast and lucky. If I really needed one and couldn't wait for a good deal I'd expect to pay $150-$175

Springfield used USGI stocks for a LONG time before they started building their own tupperware.

so did everyone else. Fred's Gunstocks used to supply a whole lot of gun crankers over the decades.
in the mid 2000's I bought over 150 usgi fiberglass stocks in one lump from a private collection in Canada, and thru that vine another 100 or so more before 2010.
I think a fair price for a fully refinished USGI fiberglass stock with a handguard to match should run in the 200 to 300 range depending on how much of the original external checkering exists and condition of the metal parts included.

I was going to start cranking out brand spanking new carbon fiber/Sglass rifle stocks in the "GI" profile , I am literally 100% set up do just flick the shop light on , crank up the curing ovens and start producing the stocks on the mold sets I made up in 2012. BUT no one wants to pay what I would have to charge for the endeavor to be reasonably and modestly profitable. The hunting rifle/serious target shooter crowd on the other hand, don't seem to suffer the same disdain for spending good money on quality handcrafted rifle stocks.
the same kinda goes for usgi fiberglass stocks. they are getting rarer and rarer with every passing year, which should in theory increase their price year after year..... but all the cheapo's want their usgi stocks for 70 bux LOL
I still have a big box full of usgi fiberlgass stocks in fairly worn but very useable condition. not even worth my time to try and bother refinishing and selling these days so I keep them for projects and freebies for buddies who get into the platform. (do not p.m. me, I do not sell rifle stocks to the public and not selling the surplus Gi stocks I have left)

You have my interest. How much for these stocks you want to build? And have you built any yet? Fill me in. I did pick up a GI glass stock from you that was m305 ready.

LOL Whoah there hoss..... not looking for interest , I already have built and tested the living snot out of them both personally and independently...... the truth is , I just don't "feel" like making them LOL , in Canada there is just no money in making composite m14 stocks. Well..... not the kind of money that comes with minimal headaches and idiots for competitors at every turn LOL
like I said, I don't sell rifle stocks to the public and am not currently making the stocks I mention above. I have made about 2 dozen so far of the "GI" version and several hundred of my other m14 stocks that were made and sold between 2007 and 2012. 12 of the 24 GI style were for destructive and field testing. 4 I gave to friends and 8 sit in my shop gathering dust hehehe. For the past year, making rifle stocks has not been a big priority for me. I supply two riflesmiths with stocks for various bolt action rifles but that's all I can say about that without flirting with the site rules. I DO NOT sell to the public directly, period and probably never will. That and last year I got offered a gig designing and fabricating a near 1/2 million dollar piece of machinery, that pays me 30bux an hour , all expenses paid, truck and gas card and I get to basically make my own schedule. I took the job to help out a friend and wrapped that up a few weeks ago.
we'll see what the future holds but for now, I'm just taking some time off to go fishin while there's still some ice left on the lake ;)

edit: sorry for the personal ramble LOL but to sum up all of the above, paying a couple hundred or more depending on condition for a serviceable USGI fiberglass stock that has been modified properly to fit the semi auto actions (Chinese ect) should be seen as a "decent" price when a brand new stock similar in fashion made with cutting edge modern composite forming equipment and materials/resins would cost you most certainly, a few hundred more

wel lthe ones i have are rought, prob 10 coats of black paint on them, checking mostly gone on them, if has to glass bead blast them, then under cote them and then paint them and top cote matte clear coat.
Like 45 said i,m not sure if its worth my time.
Id have to get $125=150ea for them or id be losing money on the time i have into them.

would anyone pay that for a refinished usgi fiber glass stock with no hardware.
What i can do it i can add a short bit of rail intgrated with the front sling mount like Sadlak makes

If you media blasted them and they came out clean, I suspect a lot of guys (myself included) might buy one primered and ready for a project. But of course not for $300! Would have to include metal in decent shape, etc.

I'd use a gel stripper if possible, then assess the cleaned off surface for cracks ect.
I've refinished far more usgi stocks than I can even remember, more than a couple hundred hehehe and most of them were sold thru this site. It may be of interest to know that I never once used a media blasting set up to strip the finish for professional results. I suppose it's faster, but it can also make for far more work to get a nice external finish.
Simon, as someone who has walked this road, my opinion is, 150.00 for a refinished and primered (no metal, not filled at selector/connector) USGI stock, is a good deal. add a front sling stud or loop and a bipod rail..... still a bargain at 200 bux. Don't sell yourself short my friend ;)

I'd buy one at $200. Cash in hand!

I'm looking for a good condition, usable platform to build my project on. For $200 I'd expect to paint and finish (fill in the selector cutout, etc.), but I'd expect it to be complete, or at least give me an easy path to complete the project.

IMHO A decent stripped USGI fibreglass stock is worth about $100.
Guys wanting more for that are looking for profit on top of the $100 (or in most cases less than) they paid for theirs.

Most stocks in 'decent' shape will require some TLC and will be worn in some areas.
If one is to pay more than $100, it would have to be in better than good condition.

The problem with selling a newly manufactured or a refurbished stock that has time and $$$ in it, is you have to look at those who are in the market. In Canada it is guys with 4-600$ Norincos. No one in their right mind will (in most all cases) drop 300$+ on a stock for an M305 - it just doesn't make much financial sense.

my refinished USGI stocks, with metal went for 225 to 300.00 depending on accessories like rails, studs and rubber recoil pads vs the standard sling loops and buttplate.
it wasn't long ago that these prices were the norm. it would be important to note that at the time, no one in Canada had really nailed down the legal importation of retailable quantities of usgi stocks.
I think the first was Fab Sports and those used condition 'need refinishing" stocks sold for around 150 bux.
it wasn't till recently and more people managing to get the left over beat up stocks into Canada that prices have started to edge down.
Also, the popularity of the platform has decreased from the fervor we saw from 2000 to 2010 (since 2010 when norinco quality started to really take a nose dive as they hit the bottom of the parts bins) so the demand for these stocks at a decent price point has dropped.

I think it would make a lot more sense to sell off the stocks "as is" and let the purchaser strip/sand/refinish....

A refinished stock with-out the selector switch hole filled in, is one I would not consider purchasing as I would have to strip it to fill the voids etc before refinishing it myself!

Cheers!

45 as always good info.

Let me think about it this week. Seems from the post here I have taken the wrong aproch to this
I'll post here with what we plan to do.
Seems more people want to make it there own project then what I had in mind

I used a gel stripper and a small wire brush and got mine very clean and preserved all the detail. Was supposed to do the kitchen chairs with it but you know, priorities. That's as far as I went with that. Need to mix some epoxy and fill the selector cut out now. Rifle sits in a Boyd so there is no urgency.
