So I've wanted an economical alternative to the savage 10FCP to punch paper with for some time now. 308 gets damned expensive after a while.

So i narrowed down my options to a CZ455 thumbhole and a Savage MkII TR. Both would run north of 600 bones and promised to be good shooters. Strolling through my local gun shop today i noticed both a MkII TR and a MkII TTR SR. After handling them i really liked the way the TR handled.

Now this store usually has inflated prices, but out of curiosity i asked what the damage was on both. The threaded model with the fugly tri rail was 649.99. More than i was looking to spend. The TR was listed at 499.99. After a quick spin around the Web, i couldnt find a better deal.

So now I own a MkII TR. I have a vortex crossfire II that i can throw on tonight. Hoping to get the girl out soon!

Anyone have any advice on things i may want to do? I hear the bottom metal is sketchy. Any accurising tips?

I was surprised how far aft i had to mount the optic to get a good sight picture. looks odd...may need some adjustment at the range.

Too late I would have got the CZ, has an edge in accuracy. TR is great as I still have it but it gets left in the safe more these days as my 2 varmints out shoot it.I do love the bolt and stock. Yes upgrade bottom metal and try some SK Std Plus ammo. Spend $80 and have the stock bedded. Enjoy it they are very comfortable too shoot.

Yeah, I would have chosen the CZ too. But, congrats on that and have fun!

Another one with you guys. After a handful of savages got tired if the cheap feel.

Congrats on the new gun. Post up a pic or 2 and some targets when you get a chance. Everyone likes seeing targets.

I don't know, I've owned a few savages and a couple CZ, and yes the CZ's had a better fit and finish overall, but the Savages were just as accurate. My Mark II FVT was the most accurate, even more so than the 452's I owned.

Congrats on the new rifle, I'm sure you'll love it. And don't regret not getting the CZ. You bought a great rifle.

No regrets yet. No CZ local so i would be out a couple hundred more for a 455 all in. Im probably going to pick one up in 17hmr in the future.

The rings I have are too low. Cleaned her up last night and tried fitting it. Anyone suggest rings for the factory bases?

The Apachee Trigger Kit is a great upgrade to your Accutrigger. Adjustable from hair trigger to a comfortable 2 or 2.5#.

I'm using cheap UTG rings from Amazon in the medium height with a 40mm objective.

The TR is a Great rifle, I have had both, still have the Savage, and yes CZ fit and finish is very good, but the tacticool TR is just as accurate. This is a bench rifle, would not carry in the bush as very heavy.

Congrats on the new rifle! The TRs (in my opinion) are the nicest of the Savage rimfires. I've spent allot of time with the HMR model. (9317TR) Adult-sized rifles, comfy stocks, etc. While I would have been on the "CZ" bandwagon as well, I hate thumbhole stocks...so I may have been conflicted myself! The TR will serve you well, try LOTS of different types of ammo through it to see what it likes. 22s can be VERY fussy, especially Savage. (in my experience) Mine, when I had them, showed a strong preference for CCI Standard Velocity.

When I got my most recent 22 (a CZ452 Varmint) the only thing that DID surprise me about it is how well it shoots a very wide selection of ammo. Didn't think I'd ever get through my Winchester 333. It shoots that stuff about 3/4" @ 50 yards. Fun to plink with! :)

My 452 american is the same. Shoots a lot of ammo very well.

My only advice is to stay away from the Winchester ammo. The rim is ever so slightly smaller than the other brands and you will have extraction issues. I have a Mark II FVT and I have no issues with Blaser or Remington and I curse the Winchester stuff.

Have shot more than a thousand rounds of Winchester Dynapoint with excellent results from my Mark II FV. Your chamber needs to be pretty clean to avoid extraction issues. Wax lubed lead bullets shoot very well but seem to crud up my rifle.

Never had problems with any winchester ammo functioning in cil 171, cooey model 60 (2 different rifles), winchester wildcat (2 different rifles), marlin model 60 (2 different rifles), cz 455 full stock, cz 455 american, cz 452 lux, cz 452 american, ruger american, remington 597, marlin xt22, a cooey 75, some other cil, some other russian 22lr. Probably more rifles I am forgetting.

Unfortunately the Norinco NS522 is no longer available and nearly doubled in price by the end of its supply at CanadaAmmo. Those who scored them in multiples at $199 were lucky.
