mdt lss chassis

There are a couple threads going on the Cadex chassis with some candid feedback as to how MDT compares. If you're in the market, it's worth reading IMHO. I'll drop a link for you if I stumble across them again.
 
I shot one the other day. With the skeleton butt stock. Can't say that I loved it. I prefer mcmillan a5's and the old school aics thumbhole stocks.
 
I picked up a vanguard in 3006 when WSS blew them out 43% off with the god awefull blaze orange stock. I am thinking about the LSS as a replacement stock. Might as well spend the money I saved on the rifle right!?
 
I built a nice 5.56 from a mossberg mvp on one (might have that terminology backwards). With the adjustable ergonomics, light weight and AR-like controls (mag release really) it's a nice small calibre shooter. I have a brake on it and the recoil is non-existant. I'm probably going to sell it to a buddy who loves it as soon as his PAL gets approved. Without a bipod or anything on the front on it's super light which makes offhand shooting very comfortable.
 
I'm planing on two rifles. One a long barreled 300 wm in a tactical looking stock just to piss of a liberal but for hunting clear cuts for moose and bear as well so weight isn't really a concern. I like the vertical pistol grip for shooting over barriers like rocks and fallen trees. The other will be for coyotes and wolves and be rather short barrel. I haven't decided on a caliber yet but leaning towards the 250 savage. I believe the classy lil 250 deserves wood and case colors but it's also the best option for what I want I believe so ill eventually end up with 2.
 
I had an LSS mounted on a Rem700 short action, and I would really suggest that you try one out before sinking a lot of time and money into building one (or two!) guns on that chassis. Some guys seem to love'em...I'm not one of those guys. Way too heavy for hunting, and frankly I found them to be awkward and uncomfortable to handle and shoot. The Look Cool Factor is there, the price is quite reasonable, but I tired of mine quickly and sold it without regrets.
 
I wish I knew someone locally who has one but sadly I don't. Surprised by the heavy comment I thought it only added 1.5 pounds or so. I hunted with an m305 that weighed 12 pounds for my first year hunting then sold it for a T3 lite. Does anyone know approximate weight with LSS, typical 3x9x40 scope, and magpul CTR butt stock?
 
Weight doesn't bother me so much but they ability to shoot offhand is a concern. Not so much for the 300 wm as I'd use it for 200-400 yard shoots but the other one will be used for coyotes and the odd wolf.
 
Have one with a rem700 SA in 308. Definitely a 22" or shorter barrel length in something of a heavy contour "looks" the best in these rifles. I like mine as its a compact frame and is very easy to shoulder. I'd say mine with a sIII 3.5-10 weights loaded aroun 10-11lbs. Haven't had it weighted since I went to the 20" barrel. Like it's been said previously you either like them or hate them. Interesting that mdt is starting to sell chassis' on factory rigs.
 
Just my 2 cents, to me the cadex chassie looks the best, but I would only put one on 300WM or 338 Lapua those cartridges in my opinion benight from the weight. On a 30 06 or 308 forget it unless you only want to use it on the range.

I would be curious as to what would the weight compare on a let say savage 10tr with stock accustock vs lss xl with a2 but.

As comparison I have a DA socom18 in a m14 BF stock with a magpull prs and Burris e1 2x7-32 weighing 12.5 lbs and another m305 shorty in a USGI stock with ( temporarily) a leupold vx-r 4-12x40 weighing 11.5 lbs. To me that 1 pound is acceptable considering better ergos( pistol grip, full adjustable prs) and added accuracy of the aluminium stock.
 
LSS, Remington 700 with sporter weight barrel, carbine butt, standard AR grip, Harris bipod, 10 round magazine and Elcan C79 is under 10 pounds. An Elcan is heavier than many optics. Offhand hold is just fine. Protruding magazine is a good palm rest for an offhand hold with vertical fore arm, elbow against body. The aluminum forend would not be good for cold weather hunting. With a compact scope and no bipod, weight would be under 8 pounds, with a sporter weight barrel.
 
I like the look of the LSS and I must admit a perverse pleasure in hunting with something that makes fudds shudder. Hence the m305 and cz 858 that I have hunted with.
 
I installed my LSS the other day. Only got to fire about 15 rounds but so far it's pretty cool. Definitely heavier than my original stock but much more comfortable for shooting offhand and off sticks.
