45/90 ?

Hello,was thinking of shooting the old Winchester this spring but having a hard time getting a set of Dies,found new brass at widway, need help finding an option or a die set used if poss. thanks for help.Mike

Track of the Wolf will ship to Canada, I think. They have quite a selection of black powder dies.

Buffalo Arms has the dies Ch,RCBS,Lyman and Redding.

Brass is going to be your biggest problem. You can use 45-70 brass by seating out the bullets. It's like shooting .38 Spl. in a .357 or .44 Spl. in a .44 Mag. If you're going to load several in the mag tube, be sure to use enough crimp to prevent bullet set back in the cases.

What he said... I get my 50/90 brass from rustywoods. I'm sure they would have 45/90 also although I've never looked for it.

Shooter's Choice in Kitchener/Waterloo has a bunch of oddball brass, I'm pretty sure I saw some .45-90 or at least some .45 basic cases a month ago when I was in there.

Rustywood and Bullet Barn both carry Starline 45-90 as well as Starline Basic. I bought a hundred or so a couple years ago; pricey but straight wall and low pressure. Anneal as appropriate and it should last forever.

You've already got dies coming but CH4D also carries these, I got mine from them. In a pinch you can also use .45-70 just adjust accordingly and neck size only. But you've got that covered so... go make some smoke. I've got an 1889 vintage Winchester 86 in 45-90. Beautiful rifle. Bought it almost 20 years ago but couldn't figure out where to get the pieces for reloading until I figured out this intermanet thing, now suddenly everything is shootable again.

The Starline 45-90 brass is excellent, and very reasonably priced in my estimation. I bought a bunch several years ago to use in my original Winchester Model 1886, but when I sold the rifle, I then downsized that brass to 40-82.

I'm a bit behind the curve on this but FYI, I bought some 45 2.6" starline brass from Higginson's Powders about a year ago and they were only a buck a pop.

I don't know if this helps , but it might .

with my 45-120 I use 45-70 dies to reload .
I've reloaded the same cases more than 10 times now with just basically neck sizing using the 45-70 dies .

I also regularly shoot 45-70 out of the same rifle , accurately .
