Svt-40 value

Horilka being cryptic again!

The odds are overwhelming that the stock is not original and is force matched. The nearly period accurate part set and above average condition would put you in the 450 range it seems these days. Definitely a reasonable trade for a Polish M44 or above average M38. Both are great firearms.

Completely agree.

There's enought SVT knowledge among the members here to fill many volumes. All I can say is I've probably never seen an original stock on an SVT.

Yes these were among the early imports?......and presumably among a handful of bringbacks?

Yes, from what I've seen. The earlier Canadian imports from Bulgaria and from the earliest imports of Finn captures. Veteran bring backs are also a possibility for almost any military rifle. However, it's really hard to prove their provenance and we aren't blessed with nearly as many bring backs in Canada as the USA.

I suppose a Russian refurb could have its original stock but it would be sanded and restamped anyway!

EDIT: What is really cool though is that a US bringback captured SVT-40 was probably captured from the Germans, who captured it from the Russians. Wish there were more of them around.

I sent Horilka a pm and he's gonna give me some info about the rifle. Which is a huge bonus it's nice having knowledgable people to pass on some wisdom. It's cool the history behind these things. From being built to ending up on a table in Canada for sale for civilian market....
Another added bonus is another member has a m44 I'm interested in. I can tell I'm gonna enjoy this goup!!
