I've always had a desire too own a Tobin shotgun [Woodstock, Ont]. Is anyone familair with the market for them in Canada? What do they usually sell for at gun shows? Are the later 'Crandall' produced guns any more or less desireable?
How common are the ones with beavertail forends? Thanks for any input.

Most Tobins that come up are the plain models or ones with fairly basic engraving. Most usually show their age and sell for in the area of $350.00 to $400.00 give or take. The opening lever being left of center is a common issue with these guns which is easy to rectify. I have a pistol grip model and one with a straight English stock. I find the English stocked gun to be very good handling and pointing and it fits my build very well. It also has very nice figure to the wood. Personally I would sooner have one made by Tobin than a later Crandall gun.

There are plenty of Tobin's kicking around... The Gun Dealer usually has a few on their "Used Guns" list (google)... they have a couple now... better Tobin's will go for $500-$600... I've only seen splinter forends but they may have made beavertail forends also... my son has a very pretty Tobin that he shoots a lot in the uplands.

I've never laid eyes on anything but field grade Tobins.

I probably wouldn't turn my nose up at a Crandall gun at the right price. These were parts guns that Crandall put together from the remains of Tobin Arms. I think the only way you could tell them apart is by the serial # range.

The English stocked gun I have is supposedly referred to as the model 70 trap gun. Other than the straight stock and engravings of ducks on the side, I don't think there is much difference between it and my other Tobin with the Prince of Wales stock and dogs engraved on the sides.
