I picked up some Hornady 9mm 115 HAP's and have some Winchester 231 powder. Can I get some recommended starting loads. I was thinking of staring at 4.4grn and moving up from there. Thanks

Trying some different loads with 124 and 147 grn. My question is how do you guys determine OAL? I have loaded some before at the recommended OAL but they wouldn't test fit into my CZ but fit fine in a glock so I pressed them in to an OAL that fit my CZ. Is this the proper way of determining OAL for the gun it will be fired in?

CZ's have a short leade for the bullet to fit into without bumping into the ramps of the rifling. So it's common to need a shorter than often published OAL. You're going to find that you end up at around 1.10. And depending on the shape of the nose of the bullet a hair shorter or a hair longer from that. 147's expecially tend to be fairly blunt to fit the extra weight on the bullet without needing to extend too far back into the casing. So you'll likely find that you need to run more like 1.09 or so.

For skinny nosed bullets you can sometimes sneak up towards 1.12 to 1.13. But there's really no point if you can make them work at 1.10.

This is pretty much what I found on my two CZ's and mirrors what others have posted in the past.

So if you seated and tried in small amounts until the test round steated OK what did you find it worked out to be?

That's how I do it but be careful of pressure increases due to the deeper seating. Start low and work up and keep an eye out for pressure signs.

I know a lot of STI 9mm have to be loaded to 1.10 or they have issue with the bullet getting stuck in the rifling. I have loaded 147 campro to 1.15 and ran a solid 1000+ rounds in practice without issue through my CZ shadowline.
I load 147 to 1.12 and 124 to 1.14 to play nice if I have to loan ammo at the range.
